[edit] Criticism

I would like to start a criticism section on Tibia regarding CIP's updates for the game, how the game utilizes players to become gamemasters, how CIP regards bannable offenses and how bannable offenses are up to the gamemasters discretion, how CIP does not allow cursing of any sort and can be a bannable/deletable offense (in some cases, even the most juvinile of curses such as crap or hell are a bannable offsense), and CIP's premium service. As I would put this before CIP's page, I feel that because these decisions only directly affect Tibia I should at least place this here. --Cazamus 14:52, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

I agree on making a criticism part, but there are many things not only that, but also that the game is heavily based on Ultima, the gameplay, character classes, etc.Wayavas1337 23:12, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Some asshole named Korni keeps erasing criticisms that are justified and documented. There is one that said that cheaters go unpunished, and he erased it. Why? Do you play this game? Are you being paid to sabotage the player's voice?

There have been an undeniable number of borderline cases where if the player is female, the customer support repeals the case so that more male players will be attracted to play WITH her, and other ridiculous things that make the CIP rules look like a impossible rorshach test.

[edit] Mods

Before another mod complains that its not a game wiki for in game content please refer yourselves to the wiki article on WoW and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Ages_%28computer_game%29 172.202.95.9 16:11, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Concern

You are continually bickering about what is relevent for general info, go look at runescape, its basically a manual, extensive at that, shouldnt tibia be allowed as much?

See also archived discussion on the existence of the entry, jargon list spam and a link to "TibiaSwe"

Sorry little time but there is a lvl 271 in rl tibia, ot servers are part of tibia so should be included, yes it lacks detail, and btw whats with the ai for 5cc?

[edit] "Orshbaal" page

someone please fix the orshbaal page, it was clearly made by a ot player, rofl "orshabaal death star atack", its not even spelt right

ROFLMAO there is no lvl 200 in REAL tibia!!!!1

Not sure if "Orshabaal death star attack" is a spell or not, and if it is then I bet it is not the official name, but what I do know is that there are quite a few level 200s in real Tibia. I may get around to helping the article sometime, but right now there are other things. OneGyT/T|C 20:26, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Indeed it was pretty horrid, I've edited it a fair amount, ofcourse there's still room for improvement, so I left the stub tag on. Flooble 23:13, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
I must say that you did a good job! Thumbs up for your edits! OneGyT/T|C 19:49, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
Indeed, good job Zhadow 01:18, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
Seems like the article is long enough not to need the stub tag. Maybe "cleanup" would be more appropriate? Tcturner2002 21:42, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Bubble reached level 200 a LONG time ago.. 217.208.183.85 17:46, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] CipSoft Page

I have created a page on CipSoft but need a bit of help. Any would be greatly, immensely appreciated. Thanks! --OneGyT/T|C 19:46, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

There, gave u some heads up--201.215.193.42 03:01, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Ah, thanks. And I see many have given help in the article. And as I promised, it is appreciated. ;-) --OneGyT/T|C 23:50, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Screenshoots

It would be apropiate to edit the screenshoots for it to show the game after the last winter update since it dramaticcly changed the game to make it look nicer, maybe not delete the screenshoots since they are nevertheless part of tibian development but it would be nice to see recent screenshoots

I agree, in paticular I belive someone should post a screen shot of the new login screen as the picture finally changed after numerous years. Also interesting would be some pictures of the underwater aspect of the game. Darkwraith 17:31, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

How about using the screenshots used on the official website? They are there to promote the game and they're made by the developers so they show what the game developers want to show. http://www.tibia.com/home/?subtopic=screenshots
Emil 20:53, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
I think that there should be a combonation of these screenshots. Also, will add new Login page.dragonwish 20:50, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
Are any on those screenshots copyrighted though? We can't just steal them if they're copyrighted. Zach1990 20:05, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
It is permissible to create your own screenshots and host them in the event of promoting the product, so such images would fall under public domain. Illegal use of CIPsoft's material would be to make your own game (i.e. OT) with CIPs images and product. Tibia.com and Cipsoft.com have no very explicit legal, copyright warning or declarations as to the use of images. In general the use is permitted in fansites for advertising the game. Any uploading images are best if personally taken and the Image use policy page should be observed when uploading. Use the template {{Non-free game screenshot}}. The login splash screen was here before, but was removed so that may not be allowed. --Dracinus 16:02, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] General article quality

The whole article needs a major rewrite. It lacks a useful structure, the language is aweful and it's filled with opinions and useless details. Please keep in mind that wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a platform to advertise your guild or to state your opinion. --Lodan 16:08, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

I just recently corrected a few sentences, and there I found two guilds. If I followed your example I should have removed the sentences completely. I must say that I personally disagree on doing that as they are known guilds in Tibia and should be perfect examples of what some people actually do in Tibia. If someone edits them out, well that's up to them, I will leave them there and not because I like them but for the reason I just stated above. --62.127.66.188 14:05, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

I have been thinking of completely rewriting the main body of the article in a prose fashion as is expected on an encyclopedia. This would involve writing out the general history of tibia. Referencing the genesis books but not copying them, and mixing in towns, vocations, hunting spots, and specific events. This would be a more interesting read and not be in violation of policy. On a different note i understand the first three "move to gaming wiki" notices, but is the updates and below sections violating the policy still? If so, how? The updates shows the development, and the others show points of interest that a non-player can understand. --Dracinus 01:09, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gameplay Jargon

I noticed that this list was deleted. If you want to remove something, it would help to let us know why. I put it back in, but am open to suggestions. Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.40.78.38 (talk • contribs)

The edit history says "removed fancrufty jargon list, linked tibiawiki instead". Please read the the agreed upon rules of thumb on computer game information in Wikipedia: if content only has value to people actually playing the game, it's unsuitable. Please understand that we're not building a complete guide to Tibia here for its players -- this is an encyclopaedia entry aimed at a general audience. The recently added "popular hunting spots" section, and even the town list suffer from the same problem. Another issue is verifiability -- every player has something to add to these lists that in his/her view fits, and since there are no criteria for inclusion they just grow and grow and become the largest sections in the article. This kind of content is ideally suited for a WikiBook or fansite, and in fact the TibiaWiki already has a much more comprehensive entry on in-game jargon -- so I linked that and removed the list here. I hope you understand this reasoning, and invite you to sign up at Wikipedia and contribute on other articles as well. -c3o 23:03, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Sure, that makes sense. Thanks for making it clear. I thought I'd go ahead and remove the hunting spots and jargon sections.
Funny, Starcraft has like 50 pages dedicated to it --201.215.193.42 03:04, 23 February 2006 (UTC) and i just checked wtf, runescape has like 20 pages, i mean wtf is all that about

[edit] Lists

I removed the lists of small towns and monsters. The computer and video games wikiproject states:

  • Articles on computer and video games should give an encyclopedia overview of what the game is about, not a detailed description of how to play it. ... if the content only has value to people actually playing the game, it's unsuitable.

I would have moved the lists to Wikibooks, but to me they seemed to not even provide real reference value, they were just lists of names instead of guides, tips or even just descriptions. C3o 19:09, 1 August 2005 (UTC)

I would advise the editors in question to contribute the more in-depth content (that which may be considered Fancruft here) to TibiaWiki instead. Note, however, that TibiaWiki can be edited only by logged-in users with a verified e-mail address. — FREAK OF NURxTURE (TALK) 12:59, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] OpenTibia

I do not think OpenTibia should be linked as its a bitch of the game copyright holders, and they do not wish OpenTibia to be advertised.

Wikipedia is not an advertisement forum. What CipSoft wishes is completely irrelevant to the disposition of this website. Wikipedia is not the property of CipSoft, or subject to its desires. That being said, I think both articles should be deleted, as they are total crap. --76.224.66.136 (talk) 00:54, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
If the project itself is indeed illegal, I would assume there were a way for CIPSoft to have it removed from Sourceforge. If using the emulator is a breach of the terms of service, add a section about that and explain the issues. I strongly object, however, to censoring the entry on behalf of the company, so I added the link again. --C3o 23:02, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
You can look for example here and go to emulators section.
I agree, wether is it illegal or not according to the rules from cipsoft shouldn't matter for Wikipedia, we just provide information, we are not here to enforce the law. If it would be illegal by the law it could be a problem, but even then I think Cipsoft needs to take actions to remove it from Sourceforge before Wikipedia should have a problem with having it on the site. --Dennis! 22:06, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
There's articles about crimes and illegal drugs on WikiPedia. OpenTibia is a fact and needs to be recognised.
One thing is to tell about facts, another thing is to stimulate or to support these facts. Maybe it is not a good thing link to such sites. Read this article.
I myself am very involed in the developement of otserv and I am pretty sure we dont violate any rights of CIP. No sourcecode of the CIP server or client was/is used. CIP has been aware of this project for a rather long time now (Over a year for sure. We got an email asking us not to do anything illegal. We answered that we didn't and we never heared of them again, so I think they tolerate otserv). --Tliff 02:06, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
The information on the page is incorrect. OpenTibia is not a reverse-engineered server software. It is a clone and a free implementation of the server software or a compatible server software. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.112.91.107 (talk • contribs) 05:01, November 27, 2005
I have updated the article to clarify that it was the protocol that was reverse-engineered, not the server software itself. Do you find it more accurate now? --c3o 18:53, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
I think it's clearer and correct now. --Tliff 22:37, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
Edited the otserv page from www.otserv.org to www.otfans.net as otserv.org is more or less inactive, and otfans.net is updated more frequently. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.64.183.105 (talk • contribs)
OTFans is a completely unsuitable link as it does not describe what OTServ is at all, provides no apparent download links, etc. It's just a forum for people already intimately familar with the software, and that's not at all what a visitor from Wikipedia would be looking for. Please do not re-add that link unless it becomes newbie-friendly. --c3o 03:21, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

Any kind of services and servers that are using the Tibia client and/or its graphics or the registered trademark Tibia are breaking the copyright. Please stop linking to these pages. --Lodan 18:38, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Since OTServ now has its own article (I hadn't noticed), I agree that the link is not necessary here -- regardless of the unproven legal implications. -c3o 15:27, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
wonder what else but a registered trademark it needs to prove that at least the name is illegal and therefor a clear violation of the law. --Lodan 16:26, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
It isn't using the Tibia Client or it's graphics in anyway at all (to host that is, as that is all I do) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.215.193.42 (talkcontribs)

There should be some things about OT server but it should be treated carefully and with a lot of well backed up information, some people just post whatever they think and its often wrong. and gee we are not gonna skip an article about murder because its illegal will we?

[edit] Mentioning Game Cheats

I understand in games like this cheating programs really give players an advantage over others. Should the likes of TibiaBot be directly mentioned here? I'd remove this sentence: "The first popular cheat for Tibia was Tibia GG, followed by TibiaBot.". Everything else still makes sense with that gone though. Can this be done?

I would maybe mention them, but not in a favorable light like they were before. Zach1990 20:09, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Several updates

I reverted an edit that removed the third party programs. I also removed the list of weapons and their stats since it makes it look like a game guide.

Should TibiaBot, which is illegal and ruins the game fun, mentioned? "Official Site of NG Soft, developer of TibiCam NG and TibiaBot NG", I hope you consider removing it!

[edit] Removed description of Carlin

In the description of the town it says: Home of brazilians, polish, and pks. Pks = people who kill other people. (Pks er not popular in Tibia). Racism is a problem in Tibia and i don't feel like this sentences put polish people and brazilians in a good light.--Tom2112 14:39, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

i really think someone else needs to take over this article. i have seen numerous examples of racist stereotypes and statements throughout this article. someone less ignorant should be in control Zach1990 20:08, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Support and Rules

This section is currently biased, obviously written by someone who feels negatively affected by the rule system. Please re-write, giving a more neutral perspective on the situation of Rules and Support.

Well I've given it a re-write, it's certainly an improvement... Flooble 11:00, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Town of Ragone

No such city as Ragone in Tibia. Please delete this one.

[edit] TibiaWiki

Throughout the Article the message "This article or section is a candidate to be moved to a gaming wiki." can be seen. I think the TibiaWiki link should be placed several times through the entire Tibia article, instead of being just once at the very bottom.

The tibiawiki site is a very valuable resource for people wanting information about tibia and it could also strike a compromise between the ideas of "Articles on computer and video games should not list minutiae or give a detailed description of how to play the game. Such topics should be moved to a gaming wiki, such as StrategyWiki, Encyclopedia Gamia, or GameInfo." and people who do want detailed information.

[edit] Removed version 7.9 update from article

Hi. I temporarily removed the 7.9 update information. It can now be found here: Talk:Tibia_(computer_game)/v79updatetemp. Feel free to move it back post-update. The reason I did this is because these articles are supposed to be 100% factual. Though most of this was gained from a reliable source, things get taken out last minute, and a lot of unsurities were also in there (i.e. "There is also a hint of a website update coming"). For news on an update you check a fansite, not Wikipedia. For archived facts on previous updates, you go to Wikipedia.

Dominixis 06:08, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Links

The Links in the article were all changed to a tibiabot site. I changed all the ones I knew back. Someone needs to change the rest of them.

I fixed the rest. FYI, you missed the tibiabot link for World of Tibia. Either way, it's all smooth now. Also, don't forget to stick a signature at the end of your posts. :)
Dominixis 09:04, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Okay, I will do that in the future --Wolverineh8ter 18:18, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

The classification between official and unofficial websites it isn't necessary, since on the links it already says which ones are are "official". Also, I don't see the point on separating here the links in those subcategories, since they all talk about the game. Kazordoon 14:06, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adversiting fansites

Wikipedia only allows external links to site that offer real and different information besides that of the official website. Even if the "fan site" are "officially" supported by CIPsoft, that doesn't mean they are "official". Including all of those fansites, all presenting the same information, is redundant and most importantly, violates a WP Policy regarding advertising and fan site promotion. AlexCovarrubias ( Talk? ) 03:26, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

The links you have deleted, in particular, Tibia News and The Tibia Wiki Project, do not present the same information as the official website, they expand it. TibiaNews provide daily in-game news which are not given on the official website. Tibia Wiki Project expands the information and contains far more articles about Tibia than the official website. The WP Policy on external links ( Wikipedia:External links ) states:

Due to the rising profile of Wikipedia and the amount of extra traffic it can bring a site, there is a great temptation to use Wikipedia to advertise or promote sites. This includes both commercial and non-commercial sites. You should avoid linking to a website that you own, maintain or represent, even if the guidelines otherwise imply that it should be linked. If the link is to a relevant and informative site that should otherwise be included, please consider mentioning it on the talk page and let neutral and independent Wikipedia editors decide whether to add it. This is in line with the conflict of interest guidelines.

So, I am not linking to any website that I own. The links are to relevant and informative sites, plus this has been mentioned on the talk page. I still don't see any reason for not including the links after reading the links policy.

Finally, most of the pages on Wikipedia contain links to non offcicial sites, just to mention a few about online games: World of Warcraft,Final Fantasy (video game) or Ultima Online. --Kazordoon 14:40, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Foreign-language links

I have deleted the link to the german site of CIPsoft because:

  1. It's a website in german.
  2. It's a website only indirectly related to the article's subject.
  3. It's a website that primarily exist to sell products or services.

For more detailed information about external links read: Wikipedia:External links

[edit] updated

Updated most recent tibia version--Wolverineh8ter 01:56, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

i dont know how to do this but someone changed all the vocations and i delete them i have played the game but i dont know much about it so please someone can rewrithe them correctly please?

[edit] Cheating Countries

This is ridiculous Slander.

I live in the United States, and I know that just as many American Players account share and cheat as people from Poland or Brazil.

This is an example of the extreme racism that is attached with this game. Also the mentioning of the players that cheat is only jealous 10 year olds who wish that had the talent and dedication of time to make a character like that.

This whole section needs to be deleted immediately. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.56.33.20 (talk) 14:45, 18 February 2007 (UTC).

how can someone believe that it is okay to just lable people like that? I would expect a section like this to be written by a 10 year old. Zach1990 20:01, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

This talk is ridiculous. Everybody can cheat and use the help of tools in Tibia. Nationality doesn't matter. AlexCovarrubias ( Talk? ) 16:44, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Quite the contrary, the first cheating tool was developed by a Brazilian player, and it was widespread throughout the Brazilian community. You should get your facts straight, some labels exist for a reason. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.142.126.152 (talk) 15:41, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] References

Marasmusine added a primary source tag, here. I am just curious what exactly needs reference and how far it should go. Most information can be found on tibia.com so are references needed for specific parts of the website, or just references for information outside of the site. If specific parts of tibia.com do not need to be referenced then the only other things needed are cipsoft.com and maybe tibiawiki. --Dracinus 21:59, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

The article needs to be supported by independent, non-trivial, reliable sources. At present it has none. The official website is not independent. The wiki is not a reliable source (per WP:EL / WP:Reliable sources). Primary sources are fine once notability is established (via independent references). Marasmusine 10:44, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] If you cannot read and write english fluently, do not edit this article.

Please edit the corresponding Tibia article in your own language, if you feel the need to contribute. This article already stands out as one of the worst in all of Wikipedia, for it's horrid grammar and usage. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Oafah (talkcontribs) 14:04, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Tibia1.jpg

Image:Tibia1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Cheating section.

Whether or not cheating is legal in game is not a concern to wiki editors. Listing the names of popular cheat tools is encyclopedic and valued information about the game to the average reader. I strongly disagree with removal, especially without a justified explanation.

Oafah (talk) 04:17, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Simply, he can't say what the most popular cheating tools are without sourcing it; I don't think that's possible anyway. Also, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information or a guidebook. The article needs to be sourced a bit and cleaned up a lot as it is, and adding more stuff that isn't more than cruft isn't gonna help. SouperAwesome (talk) 11:54, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Fine, I'll simply list which tools are available to the general public and link to their websites. 99.232.39.48 (talk) 05:37, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm thinking that CipSoft's Customer Support is being paid to edit the Wikipedia page for it, just to keep the cheating scenario on the hush-hush, since they're doing nothing else. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.142.126.152 (talk) 15:43, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tibia Game Article

Hey everyone, User talk:Viva La Kimzen created an alternate article on Tibia here Tibia Game and it's up for AfD. I don't think it stands a good chance due to an obvious data conflict, but the editor seems passionate about the game and wikipedia so I'd like to ask the Tibia editing community to help guide this user in the right direction. Maybe some editors more familiar with the game than I am could read Kimzen's article and see if there is any information that should be merged or contact User talk:Viva La Kimzen about areas where this Tibia article can be improved, giving Kimzen a place to make useful contributions. Thanks to anyone who takes the time.--Torchwood Who? (talk) 15:13, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

AfD result was redirect... so there ya go. Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 16:16, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Some items removed by Ant

I've removed a section referring to a 2003 update and giving an incomplete and highly opinionated description of some new modes (skull, duel and party). If reintroduced, this should be sourced adequately, and any reasoning given in the article for the introduction of these modes should be sourced to public announcements by the site owners at the very least. --Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The 09:58, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

I've also removed this from a section about a 2006 update:

A contentious inclusion is CIPs addition of tools which were previously illegal cheats but have now become standard. Some are opposed to the addition as it "ruins role-play" and takes away from the skill involved in player versus player combat. Others like the change for the obvious benefits, and because laggier players can now participate in combat more easily. The presumed goal is to bring all players on an equal playing field by giving everyone use of the tools.

This also appears somewhat opinionated. If included, it should be either stripped to the bare details or the opinion should be reasonably reliably sourced (just so we know it isn't some personal opinion). ==Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The 10:02, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

I've removed this from the Cheating section:

Many free account players commonly complain about the understaffed gamemasters. Most gamemasters are volunteers and are often overwhelmed with not only many reports of rule-breaking, but are often mobbed and abused by regular players when they do appear.

It would be good to see some sourcing for this as it could be read as an unsourced moan about poor support. --Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The 10:06, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

I've removed this:

The test is a source of frustration and controversy for two major reasons. The first is that some questions have tricky wording and getting as little as one question wrong counts as a fail. The second problem is the matter of test spoilers. Some members of the Tibia community have little respect for the justice system in Tibia and will post the correct answers to all of the questions so that even people that do not even understand the game are capable of passing the test. Fortunately, such tutors often do not last long between inactivity and sending/receiving bad reports.

Again, looks like an unsourced moan. Accounts of negative features like this are an invaluable part when they are sourced and balanced, but they must be sourced so we have some idea of how important they're considered by the general users of the game. This is already difficult to do when there isn't a lot of external critique of the game (if there is such critique in reliable sourced, please do add it!) --Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The 10:10, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
