[edit] History

Upon their formation Purfleet entered the Reserve Division of the Essex Senior League in 1985 and spent one season in that division before progressing to the Senior Division. Three seasons later in 1988, the club won the ESL title and successfully applied for promotion to the Isthmian League, being placed in Division Two North. Purfleet made its mark on the Isthmian League fairly quickly in the early 90s, rising to the Premier Division after two promotions in three years beginning in 1991-92. The club then remained in the Premier Division with varying success for a decade. After finishing 3rd in 2003-04, Thurrock (the new name having been adopted in 2003) qualified for the newly formed Conference South. In the club's first season in the league, Thurrock qualified for the promotion playoffs but were knocked out by Eastbourne Borough.
