Thurlby by Bourne

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thurlby is called Thurlby by Bourne when there is a need to distinguish between it and Thurlby by Lincoln or the hamlet of Thurlby in the parish of Bilsby, in the Lincolnshire Marsh.

Thurlby by Bourne is a civil parish and village in the district of South Kesteven lying between the parishes of Bourne and Baston, at grid reference TF095171. Most of the village lies to the west of the A15 road but a part, including the parish church is to the east. There is one public house, called the Horseshoe, located on the A15/High street junction. Geographically Thurlby is on the western edge of the Lincolnshire fens.

Thurlby also has a hill, this hill is called Swallow Hill, on the hill there are many houses and up until around 1998, there was very little pavement near the top and people had to walk on the road. There is also a small estate with a 'private' road. This estate is called Swallow Heights.

The parish includes Northorpe, Obthorpe and Kate's Bridge.
