Thuringowa Central is a suburb and a commercial hub of Townsville, Queensland, its name derives from it having been the city centre of the former City of Thuringowa. It is predominantly commercial and retail, but also contains a residential subdivision, with the area surrounding the suburb (and the suburb itself), also known by the locals as The Willows. Willows Shoppingtown is also located in the suburb.
One of the two Townsville Council Chambers, Thuringowa Library, Thuringowa Soundshell, Reading Cinemas are also located in this suburb, Thuringowa drive is the main road of the suburb which hosts smaller business's.
When Thuringowa was a city most visitors did not know the location of the city's centre, so in 2004 the Thuringowa city Mayor developed the city centre masterplan to complement the Riverway project.[1]
