Thunderbolt is a wooden roller coaster currently located at Six Flags New England. Opened in 1941 Thunderbolt is currently the oldest roller coaster at Six Flags New England. It is also one of the oldest roller coasters in any Six Flags park, along with the Comet at The Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom in Lake George, New York.
[edit] History
The plans for the Thunderbolt were purchased from the 1940 New York World's Fair. When it opened in 1941, it was called Cyclone; the ride was renamed Thunderbolt in 1942.
[edit] Other notes
Though it is a relatively wild coaster, it is ideal for those who want to ride a wooden coaster but do not have the courage to ride the park's other one, the intense and physically rough Cyclone. One of the primary reasons why the ride hasn't been demolished is because it is very popular among coaster enthusiasts.
