Thunder Cross is a horizontally scrolling shoot 'em up arcade game released by Konami in 1988.

[edit] Overview

This game is a classic horizontal shooter with 7 stages. Players control a fighter with up to four "options", which arrange up and down vertically and attack like player's own fighter. Three weapons are selectable, while the "boomerang", which may bounce between environment and enemies, is players' favorite. At the end of each stage is the boss, usually a large battle ship, with an octahedral core. Apparently, the Japanese version is much better(in terms of power-up) and harder than the U.S. version. The reason why Konami made the U.S. version looks like a bootleg version is unknown.

Thunder Cross uses "layered scrolling", a new 2D graphics technique in that time, which produces beautiful playing background. It also performs a nice BGM.
