The Thu Thiem New Urban Area is an urban project in District 2, Ho Chi Minh City (the largest city in Vietnam). It is currently under construction.

The urban area is situated in District 2, by the Saigon River, opposite the downtown areas of District 1, District 7, and the Binh Thanh District. It also borders District 9 of the city.
[edit] Urban layout
The urban area covers an area of 7 square kilometres and is consisted of several sections: residences, pools, parks and office sections. Almost all buildings here are to be of 10 to 40-story. Once completed, this new urban area will replace District 1 as the city's center. This new urban area is connected with the existing downtown with several bridges and a a 6-lane tunnel which are under construction.
[edit] Schedule and investment
The project is being carried out in stages, and is scheduled to be completed in 15 years, depending on the investment capital. Priority is given to the infrastructure investors with favorabale assistance for the city government as well as preferential taxation.
