The Triveni Academy was one of the largest residential schools in India. Triveni Academy was founded on 15th June 1987 with over a thousand boys and girls from various parts of India and abroad. Since then the strength has increased fivefolds. Thriveni Academy is a unique coeducational and fully residential complex for children from Classes I to XII. It was functioning with a strength of 5,000 pupils and 800 staff members.
It is located in the Vadakupattu village 25 km from Madras (Chennai) and spread across 800 acres (3.2 km²) of land.
The sprawling campus of over 800 acres covers more than 15,00,000 sq. ft. area in civil construction, spread out over 100 buildings, a number of large sized open wells, deep bore wells and two sub stations, three separate libraries. 4 large sized swimming pools, separate roller skating rinks for boys and girls, a thousand meters cycling track, a 400 metre track for athletics, a spacious prayer hall, an open air theatre, a large workshop for carpentry, painting and sculpture. A bakery, a wet & dry grinding shop, cold storage, a number of water coolers and other useful provisions are available. A fleet of buses, vans, minibuses and cars are available for transport.
The term Triveni refers to the meeting of three sacred rivers of the Hindu culture. The three rivers are the Ganges, the Yamuna and the Saraswati.
The academy school premises was designed to represent this meeting and there were actually three school buildings with the same names as the rivers. Each school had its own principal and the classes were divided between the schools as standard 1-4 Ganga, 5-8 Yamuna and 9-12 Saraswathi. The school was administered by a powerful management team lead by Mr. Shivan Nair and manager Sathish. The school had an exclusive reputation across the country for its sports interests which included horse riding and swimming. Several students from diverse cultures around the country and NRIs made a beautiful part of this small school kingdom.
Sports
Every child in the academy was encouraged to play indoor and outdoor games and sports. More than 40 horses, 4 large sized swimming pools, a thousand metres cycling track, a 400 metre track for athletics, a number of play grounds for football, hockey, basketball, volleyball, tennikoit, badminton, squash, a complete rifle shooting range, a polo ground and a lake for boating are all available. For students who liked adventurous activities, hill climbing, trekking, equestrian, roller skating, offer alternatives.
Extra Curricular Activities
Students were imparted a rich cultural and artistic training under the supervision of talented and highly trained instructors. This training includes Indian dance forms, western ballet, vocal music, instruments like the Veena, Tabla, Violin, Sitar, Guitar, Drums, Flute etc. Other activities like stitching, embroidery, home sciences, dress making, debates, quiz contests, skits, dramatics, painting and sculpture were popular.
It was also renamed as Jayalakshmi Academy.This school is no longer functional the whole school has been purchased by Hiranandani builders one of the biggest real estate companies in India recently in the limelight for having evaded provident fund remittance to the tune of 1.68 billion rupees, their offices were raided in Mumbai by the sleuths of CBI.
