Threerow cypher

The Threerow cypher is a cypher that cannot be cracked with frequency analysys. Calvin Motes is credited with its creation.

To encode a message with this cypher you must have five set keys. The first neccesary key is the thrreerow grid, involves the alphabet, (for the basic version) or a random string of letters arranged in three rows. The basic thrreerow gird is shown below:

The grid is composed of two rows of nine letters and one row of 8, due to the fact that 26 does not divide by three evenly. The strech I use here is the English alphabet, but you could, for instance try to use a code word or some other encoding stratigy along with it. To encode:

  1. Find which row the letter is in and find the central letter that corrosponds with that row.
  2. Decide weather the chosen letter is left of, right of, ot the center letter. this is where the 2nd 3rd and 4th keys come in. They will all be letters. One will be for left of the center one will be for right of the center and the third will be for just streagt center.
  3. Take the letter and represent it with the center.
  4. Put the key in front of or behind the center letter. this should be predetermined.
  5. Repeat those steps for every letter, forming two letter "packets" that represent one letter apiece.
