Thornford is a village in north west Dorset, England, situated in the Yeo valley four miles south west of Sherborne.

Thornford is in Thornhackett Parish.A combined Parish comprising of Thornford and Beer Hackett
The village has a general store and post office, a pub, a primary school (Thornford CEVA), a Norman church (St. Mary Magdalene), a village hall, a recreation field and a cricket club.
There are a number of Grade II listed buildings in the village, the centre of which, dominated by a Victorian clock tower, was designated a Conservation area in 1994.The most recent Grade 11 listing is the the British Telecom Telephone Box listed in February 2008 being a fine exanple A brief history of the village may be seen on the parish council village web site.
There are some 643 Registered Voters on the Thornford Elector Register for 2006.

The general store and post office is open from 0800 (8am) to 1300 (1pm) and 1400 (2pm) to 1730 (5:30pm) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; from 0800 (8am) to 1300 (1pm) on Wednesdays and Saturdays and from 0900 (9am) to 1100 (11am) on Sundays.

The pub opens from 11:00 (11am) to 15:00 (3pm) and from 18:00 (6pm) to 11pm Mondays to Thursdays; from 11:00 to 15:00 and from 18:00 to 11.30 on Fridays; from 11:00 to 15.00 and 18.00 to 11.30pm Saturdays, and from 12:00 (noon) to 3pm on Sundays 18.00 to 11.00pm
After three months of closure October 2007 saw the Pub taken on by The Hidden Brewery from Dinton Nr Salisbury Wilshire. Providing good real ale and food with an excellent mine host and family.
The pub also has a skittles alley.

The Parish Council comprises of seven elected members from Thornford and three elected members from Beer Hackett All serve on a four year term of office

Thornford railway station is on the Heart of Wessex Line running between Bristol and Weymouth. Thornford is also served by the South West Coaches Ltd bus 200 running between Yeovil and Sherborne.

Thornford is mentioned in the Domesday Book when is called Torneford and belongs to the Bishop of Salisbury[1]. Finds suggest Bronze Age or earlier inhabitation. A Roman villa has been excavated close to the village.
