Thompson Airport is located 6 mi (9.7 km) northwest of the City of Thompson. It was developed originally by the International Nickel Company in 1961 to support their mining operations and had one runway 3,000 ft (914 m) in length.

The Airport was transferred to Transport Canada in 1963. It has since been operated by the Local Government District of Mystery Lake, and in March of 2000 ownership was taken over by the Thompson Regional Airport Authority.[1][2]

The Airport is served by Calm Air and Perimeter Aviation with flights to Winnipeg.[4][5] There are also bases for Custom Helicopters,[6] Missinippi Airways,[7] Fast Air[8] Royal Canadian Mounted Police Air Services Branch and Manitoba Government Air Services.
