Thomas Wedgwood III

Thomas Wedgwood III (1685-1739) was an English potter and the father of Josiah Wedgwood, the famous potter. Thomas was the elder son and heir of Thomas Wedgwood II and Mary Leigh of Burslem. He was master potter of the Churchyard Work, Burslem.
He married Mary Stringer and they had eleven children, three of whom died in infancy:
- Anne Wedgwood (1712-1782)
- Mary Wedgwood (1714-1716)
- Thomas Wedgwood IV (1716-1773, Master Potter of the Churchyard Words and the Overhouse, Burslem, taught his younger brother Josiah the potter's trade.
- Samuel Wedgwood, (born and died 1719)
- Margaret Wedgwood (1720-p.1777). She had a son Thomas Byerley, who became a partner of Josiah at the Etruria Works. The actor Cary Elwes descends from Thomas Byerley.
- John Wedgwood (1721-1767), merchant.
- Aaron Wedgwood (1722-1767): Ancestor of William Wedgwood Benn, 1st Viscount Stansgate, patriarch of a prominent Labour family
- Abner Wedgwood (1724-1726)
- Richard Wedgwood (1725-1778).
- Catherine Wedgwood (1726-1804). Her daughter Mary Willett was the mother of Sir Henry Holland.
- Josiah Wedgwood (1730 – 1795) the potter.
