Thomas Savage (1463–1508) was an English Clergyman.
On December 3, 1492, he was nominated Bishop of Rochester. He was consecrated on April 28, 1493. He held the post he until 1497 when he was translated to be Bishop of London.[1]
His last post was as Archbishop of York from 1501 to 1507. He was translated from the see of London on January 18, 1501.[2] While Archbishop he was responsible for the marriage ceremony of Arthur, Prince of Wales, eldest son of Henry VII, to Catherine of Aragon. Arthur died young, and his brother Henry, who became Henry VIII, then married Catherine.
Between 1501 and 1507, he had built the Savage Chapel at St Michael's Church, Macclesfield. It was built as a chantry chapel. The three storey porch has the shields of Rochester, London and York, the three places where Thomas Savage was a bishop before becoming an Archbishop. This chapel now belongs to the Marquis of Cholmondeley.
He died in September of 1507, either on the 2nd or the 3rd.[2] Thomas Savage is buried in York Minster where his effigy can still be seen; however, his heart is buried in Macclesfield, whence his family came.
