Thomas R. Plough is the president-emeritus of Assumption College which is located in Worcester, MA. He begin his presidency in 1998. Plough was the 15th president of the institution. He is a graduate of Michigan State University. In August of 2006, Plough announced his intentions to retire on June 30, 2007.
Regarding his retirement, Plough notes that “This has been a labor of love for [wife] Monty and me. Assumption’s Cabinet, faculty, staff, trustees, alumni, students, and friends have achieved strategic traction for the future of the College. I know I leave Assumption in good hands and in good shape. The entire extended family of Assumption College sustains a campus environment that is friendly, civil and compassionate in its activities, and just as important, intellectually serious and rigorous, as an academic community must be in pursuit of the truth. Our faculty is outstanding—I would compare their credentials and commitment to students to the best colleges in the country.”
A seven-month nationwide search was conducted to find his replacement. On Thursday, February 15, 2007, The Assumption College Board of Trustees announced that Francesco Cesareo is Plough's successor and will become the college's 16th president on July 1, 2007.
