Thomas Newport, 1st Baron Torrington PC, (c. 165527 May 1719) was an English peer and Whig politician.

The second son of the 1st Earl of Bradford and Lady Diana Russell was born in High Ercall, Shropshire. Newport was educated at Christ Church, Oxford and matriculated in 1672. He was called to the Bar by Inner Temple in 1678 and worked as a Barrister-at-Law.

From 1695 to 1698 and from 1699 to 1700, he was Member of Parliament (MP) for Ludlow. He was further MP for Winchelsea from January to November 1701, and for (Much) Wenlock in 1715 and 1716.

Newport was Commissioner of the Customs from 1699 to 1711 or 1712. In 1715, he became Lord of the Treasury and held this office until 1718. On 20 June 1716, he was elevated to the peerage as Baron Torrington, in the County of Devon. One year later he was invested as a Privy Counsellor. In 1718 and 1719 he was Teller of the Exchequer.

Lord Torrington has married thrice, firstly to Lucy Atkyns, daughter of Sir Edward Atkyns, secondly on 22 July 1700 to Penelope Mary Bridgeman, daughter of Sir Orlando Bridgeman, 1st Baronet in Chelsea, London and thirdly to Anne Pierrepont, daughter of Robert Pierrepont after 1705.

Newport died childless and was buried in Wroxeter, Shropshire on 12 June 1719. His barony became extinct.
