Thomas Junta

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thomas Junta of Massachusetts was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2002 after he beat Michael Costin (father of Michael Jr. who was also playing in the game), the coach of his young son's hockey game, to death, following a dispute over several on-ice infractions during the game.

The jury which tried his case, consisting of nine women and three men, dismissed the charge of manslaughter, and instead convicted him of the lesser crime of involuntary manslaughter. Judge Charles Grabau sentenced Junta to 6-10 years, which was twice the Massachusetts' suggested sentence for the crime.

In April 2008, Junta was denied parole for the second time. In denying his request, the board said that Junta had failed to fully accept responsibility for his actions.
