[edit] 2006 onwards

In 2006 Thomas landed a recurring role on NBC's hit show Heroes playing the character of Zach. This character was initially written to eventually turn out to be gay and some references were made to the characters sexuality, however when Thomas left the show after landing the role of John Connor rumors began to spread that he was unhappy playing a gay character. Thomas and his management denied that this was the reason for his departure from the show, but many still believe it to be the reason, including Heroes writer Bryan Fuller. Thomas argued that he simply wanted to move on and was only contracted episode by episode and once he landed another job he didn't feel the need to continue playing the character anymore. He also said that he had played gay characters in the past and had no problem with it, stating that when he originally got the role of Zach, the script said that he was in love with Claire Bennet. He played the character for 11 episodes before leaving the show when he won a lead role in FOX's new show Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, starring opposite Lena Headey and Summer Glau. The show debuted January 13, 2008 and continues the story of Sarah and John Connor's lives after the events of the second Terminator film, Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Upcoming projects include the independant thriller movie From Within horror movie, Laid to Rest which he co-stars with Lena Headey and the drama My Sister's Keeper along side Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin and Medium star Sofia Vassilieva. The role in My Sister's Keeper required Thomas to shave his head, as he is playing a cancer patient. He is also producing his own movie Whore which he wrote, directed, produced, edited and starred in. Finally and most recently, Thomas can be seen playing the lead character Nate Palmer in the web based sci-fi series IQ-145.

The TV spin-off from the Terminator movies, premiered on Fox with successful numbers of over 18 million viewers and became a steady hit on Monday nights. The first season was cut short due to the WGA Writer's Strike, which resulted in only 9 episodes of the intended 13 being completed. However, the show was greenlit for a second season with Lena Headey, Thomas Dekker, Summer Glau, Richard T. Jones and Brian Austin Green all expected to return. Also rumoured to be joining the cast is Garbage front woman Shirley Manson as a regular. The complete first season has been announced for release on region one on 19th August 2008. The DVD set will also be released on Blu-Ray the same day and in the UK the boxset will be released on 11th August 2008. At the age of sixteen, Thomas started writing and producing his own music that infused the drama and musical intricacies of classical with the soundscape and aesthetics of electronica. Thomas describes his unique musical style as "electrofolk". Thomas' first album Psyanotic is complete and is currently in negotiations with record companies.
