Thomas Birtles

Thomas James Denton Birtles was a first class cricketer who played for Yorkshire County Cricket Club between 1913 and 1924. He had also appeared for the Second XI in 1912.
He was a right handed batsman who scored 876 runs at 19.04 with a best of 104 against Lancashire in the Roses Match played at Bramhall Lane, Sheffield in July 1914. Promoted to open the innings in Yorkshire's second dig, his century was by far the highest score of a drawn match. He also bowled 6 overs in his career without success.
He was born on October 26, 1886, Higham, Barnsley, and died aged 84 on January 13, 1971 in Attenborough, Nottinghamshire.
