Thomas B. Doherty High School (DHS) is the newest high school in District 11 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, serving northeast Colorado Springs. The schools that feed into Doherty include Jenkins, Russell and Sabin Middle Schools.
The school's colors are blue and green, and the mascot is the Spartan.
The current principal, Dr. Jill Martin, of DHS was named the 2007 MetLife/National Association of Secondary School Principals National High School Principal of the Year.
[edit] Spike Shooter incident
In February 2007, the school gained national media attention when several students became ill after drinking Spike Shooter, an energy drink. As a result of the illnesses, which included two students being sent to the emergency room, the school banned Spike Shooter, and 224 7-Eleven stores in Colorado pulled the drink from store shelves. Doherty High School is home to two gyms, two practice football fields, one soccer field, one baseball field, one softball field, a swimming pool, and a wrestling room. Doherty plays its Varsity and JV homes games for football, Varsity men's and women soccer at Gary Berry Stadium located near Wasson High School. Doherty has athletic programs in:[2]
