Thomas is a common given name for males. It originated from the Aramaic designation תום or Tôm. The meaning of the name is "twin", and in the New Testament the designation was applied to Thomas the Apostle.[1] The name "Thomas" was not very popular in English until the 12th century, after the martyrdom of Thomas Becket.
Tom is an abbreviation of Thomas and Tommy a common variant. The female versions of this name are Thomasina and Tamsin and Tasmina or Tasmino
