[edit] Biography

Originally from a small Texas town, Wolf moved to Los Angeles becoming senior pastor at age 24 of the First Southern Baptist Church of East Los Angeles, "bringing enthusiasm" to a handful of people still attending. Located on Brady Ave he presided over the church as it became known as "The Church on Brady." (although never officially changed). Wolf served for 25 years in this role.

"Bro Thom" as he is called, has been called "one of the great thinkers of the Church." He developed the concept for "Brady" to "become a spiritual reference point east of downtown Los Angeles and a sending base to the ends of the earth." He pioneered "Oikos Evangelism" [1]: reaching out to one’s circle of influence; Home Church/Discovery Bible Study [2] groups or "Share Groups" George Hunter III, Church for the Unchurched; fostered a "new American apostolic church, rather a traditional one." George Hunter III , Reaching the Unreached (1997) after examining American apostolic churches (including Willow Creek Community Church and Saddleback Church) found The Church on Brady to be "...the most apostolic congregation in America." Known also for "The Universal Disciple" [3] and the concept of the "Person of Peace"[4]

Together with wife, Linda and colleague Carol Davis, Wolf was responsible for training and sending more international missionaries than any other church in the Southern Baptist International Mission Board (1990's). Dr. Lyle Schaller has said, he "...tenaciously and persistently pursued the perennial apostolic paradigm of church ... multiplication rather than ... maintenance." They initiated the Spare Not Conference on World Evangelism becoming influential globally. Hundreds of students and leaders sought to be discipled by Wolf. He gained a reputation for overseeing a ethnically diverse group of congregants. Wolf's communication style has been called "passionate" and his knowledge of biblical scripture "deep". He is known for his effects, acronyms, initialisms and other mnemonic memory teaching methods.
