Coordinates: 34°39′09″N 77°22′33″E / 34.6526, 77.3757 Thoise is a military airfield[1] and small village in Shyok Valley, Jammu and Kashmir, India, lending name to the only big piece of flat land in the area converted to a major military airstrip. The airstrip is a critical facility enabling quick inflow of men and material from the Indian mainland for Siachen. It is about an hour's flight from Delhi.

THOISE is not a real name but an acronym; Transit Halt Of Indian Soldiers Enroute (to Siachen)[2]. The place is approximately 16 km away from the village of Hundur and 25 km from Disket. It is about 160 km from Leh - the capital of Ladakh. Thoise is across the Khardungla Pass - the world's highest motorable road.

Thoise is out of bounds for civilians. The last checkpost is at Hunder, at a bridge where photography is not permitted.
