All references I see to him spell his last name "McDonough", I did redirect to this page from that spelling, not sure which is canonical Jolomo 00:47, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The DANFS uses Macdonough, as do the Navy ships named after him. See [1] for a bio that says he changed his name prior to entering the Navy, "for unknown reasons". Here are some other references which use the "mac" spelling [2], [3], [4]. Finally, this page shows his signature using the mac spelling.
If you'd like, no objections to adding that his father's name was spelled "McDonough" and that he changed it. Jinian 04:01, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
