This is that corporation is an independent film production company based in New York City. It was founded in 2002, and is owned by former Good Machine co-founder and co-president Ted Hope and former Good Machine producer Anne Carey. Good Machine's former vice president of Business Affairs, Diana Victor, is also a partner.

The first films produced by This is that include 21 Grams by Alejandro González Iñárritu starring Sean Penn, Naomi Watts and Benicio del Toro; Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind written by Charlie Kaufman, directed by Michel Gondry, and starring Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo and Elijah Wood; The Door in the Floor, based on a novel by John Irving, written for the screen and directed by Tod Williams, and starring Jeff Bridges and Kim Basinger; and John Waters' A Dirty Shame, produced along with Killer Films and City Lights Pictures, starring Selma Blair, Johnny Knoxville and Tracy Ullman.

This is that produced Mike Mills' Thumbsucker starring Lou Taylor Pucci, Tilda Swinton, Vincent D’Onofrio, Keanu Reeves, Benjamin Bratt and Vince Vaughn. The film premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival and the 2005 Berlin International Film Festival. Lou Taylor Pucci was awarded the Special Jury Prize at both the Sundance and the Berlin festivals for his performance. Sony Pictures Classics distributed the film in September 2005.

Another This is that production in competition at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival was Jeff Feuerzeig's documentary about the legendary musician, The Devil and Daniel Johnston, which won Best Director for a documentary at the festival and was released by Sony Pictures Classics in the spring of 2006.

In 2006, Sony Pictures Classics released This is that's Nicole Holofcener-directed Friends with Money, starring Jennifer Aniston, Catherine Keener, Frances McDormand and Joan Cusack. The film, which was the opening night selection at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, was Sony Pictures Classic's highest grossing film that year.

Films released in 2007 include Hal Hartley’s Fay Grim, a Magnolia Pictures/HDNet release, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. It was also featured at the Sundance, Berlin, London and San Sebastian film festivals. The film stars Parker Posey and Jeff Goldblum. The Ex, released through The Weinstein Company, was written by David Guion and Michael Handelman and directed by Jesse Peretz. The film stars Zach Braff, Amanda Peet, Jason Bateman, Charles Grodin and Mia Farrow. The Hawk is Dying, starring Paul Giamatti, hit screens in February 2007 through Strand Releasing.

In 2007, The Savages, directed by Tamara Jenkins and starring Laura Linney and Philip Seymour Hoffman, premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and was released in theaters by Fox Searchlight on November 28, 2007. It was released on DVD April 22, 2008.

Towelhead, Oscar-winner Alan Ball's feature film directorial debut, stars Aaron Eckhart, Toni Collette, and Maria Bello and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. It was also screened at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and will be released on August 8, 2008.

Trainwreck: My Life as an Idiot, written and directed by Tod Harrison Williams and starring Seann William Scott, Gretchen Mol and Jeff Garlin, is currently playing the festival circuit to enthusiastic reviews.[verification needed]

This is that currently has three films in post-production: Adventureland, written and directed by Greg Mottola (Superbad), Carriers, (in association with Likely Story) written and directed by brothers Alex and David Pastor, and Sleep Dealer, (in association with Likely Story), a Spanish-language science-fiction romance from writer-director Alex Rivera that premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.
