"This Is the New Shit" is the second single off Marilyn Manson's album The Golden Age of Grotesque. It has several new industrial beats that Tim Skold added when he joined the band as the bassist in 2002. It was the most successful song off of The Golden Age of Grotesque following Mobscene. The UK release features the band's cover of The Geto Boys' "Mind of a Lunatic." British Band Goldfrapp created a remix of the song in 2003 called Marilyn Manson vs Goldfrapp. This featured as the second track on the UK release of "This Is the New Shit", the CD also contained the video for the single.
For its music video counterpart, an alternate recording was used with the lyrics This Is the New Hit and the song title reading This Is the New Shit. The word "Motherfuckers" is being replaced by some jumpy beat noises
This song was featured in an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation titled "Suckers". It was also included on the soundtrack for The Matrix Reloaded and used in the movie Hatchet.
Between July 10 and July 31, 2007, and once more on August 7, the radio edit was used as the theme song for the WWE's ECW brand. It replaced the long standing theme, "Bodies" by Drowning Pool, and was replaced by "This Is Extreme!" by Harry Slash & The Slashtones and "Don't Question My Heart"—an in house written track—the two times it was replaced.
The song and album as a whole have received criticism for allegedly having hidden Nazi themes within the lyrics and music video especially due to its overlying German theme. The video also features a Mercedes Benz once owned by Adolf Hitler.[1]
