The story comprises 4 episodes involving Lord Shiva and all 4 have different stories called as thiruvilayadalgal . Each part teaches conveys a message for life at the end. All stories have Lord Shiva as the main character and his test of patience and devotion of his devotees. The sound track of this film is popular even today. It is still played during temple festivals in Tamil Nadu, even after 40 years.

- The Dharumi scene played by Nagesh is memorable and the dialogues in that part of the movie are a feast.
- Songs are excellent though classical.
- The director A P Nagarajan himself did the role of Nakkeeran in the first episode.
