Thiruparankundram is a panchayat town in Madurai district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

As of 2001 India census[1], Thiruparankundram had a population of 39,009. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Thiruparankundram has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 81%, and female literacy is 70%. In Thiruparankundram, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Thiruparankundaram is 5km away from South Madurai. Lord Murugan shrine is located here. This is the Lord Murugan's first and important shrine among other temples. This is were Lord Muruga married to his first wife Thevanai (the daughter of Indiran), in the presence of Sun and Moon. Here is the only place we can see Lord Muruga with his first wife Goddess Thevanai, most (or all) other Shrines have Muruga with both his wives (Thevanai & Valli).
