[edit] History
Thirteen Senses started out as Soul Magician, which began in school when Will South started writing songs which he showed Adam Wilson. He in turn liked the songs and left the other band he was in at the time. Soul Magician really took off when South and Wilson met Tom Welham. The latter knew Brendon James and they all became friends.
Soul Magician released an EP by the name of Inside a Healing Mind, which was produced by Leon Phillips. It consisted of four tracks, one of which was later released as a B-side. "Attracting Submission" is found on the "Do No Wrong" 7" vinyl. After that came the No Other Life Is Attractive EP: the first Thirteen Senses release, produced by Dare Mason. This had five tracks. Four of them have been released as B-sides, the exception being the lengthy "Sound". After this came Falls in the Dark, the band's first album.
The band's next release was The Invitation. This consisted of twelve tracks and reached number 14 in the UK charts on its re-release.
Following The Invitation, Thirteen Senses released their first single, "Thru the Glass". This was released on CD and 7" vinyl. The B-side was identical on both releases: "No Other Life Is Attractive" has become a firm favourite of many Thirteen Senses fans. The next single, often called the first because of the limited availability of "Thru the Glass", was "Do No Wrong". Two CDs and a 7" vinyl, making a total of 5 tracks and one video, were issued. "Do No Wrong" reached number 38 in the official UK singles chart. To promote it, Thirteen Senses went on tour, including a homecoming gig at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro.
The third single from the band was "Into the Fire". This was also released on two CDs and vinyl, meaning more new B-sides. "Into The Fire" won the band more fans and was extensively used on BBC One's Match of the Day. After this came a re-release of "Thru the Glass" which broke the group into the top 20. A re-release of The Invitation reached no. 14 in the charts.
The band toured both in the UK and Europe in 2005 and made several appearances at festivals such as Glastonbury, T in the Park and V.
The band spent much of the latter part of 2005 and early 2006 in the studio, working on their next album, Contact. It is now complete, and released on 2 April 2007. It was originally planned to be released in February 2007 but after playing three pre-album gigs at The Luminaire in London (each on the thirteenth of October, November and December), the band felt creatively inspired and produced new tracks. "Talking to Sirens", one of the new tracks from Contact, was only played at the last gig and it is believed that it came about as a result of the previous gigs played. Due to the new album release date, their UK tour also had to be rescheduled for March.
Yet for their second album the band have had problems getting promotional radio airplay due their status within the British music industry. Because they are not established artists still riding on their success from the first album they have been unable to break into BBC Radio 1 and meanwhile they have been told that they are too cool for BBC Radio 2. The band have said though that this won't stop them and they hope to still play to their fans. It has also been suggested that there will be a third album.[1]
