Third Street Music School Settlement
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Third Street Music School Settlement is the nation's oldest community music school. Based in New York City's historic Lower East Side, the Third Street Music School Settlement was founded in 1894 by Emilie Wagner, who believed that music could offer the impoverished immigrants of New York's Lower East Side some respite from their daily struggles[1].

MILES (Music Instruction on the Lower East Side)[7]
Third Street Music School Settlement partners with many public schools in Lower Manhattan to provide music instruction for their students. Each program is tailored to the needs of the individual school with the newest initiative teaching groups of late elementary and middle school students to play winds, brass and percussion instruments, forming school bands.
The children in Third Street's school partnerships have the chance to perform in concerts at least once a school year. The most interested students (ages 6 to 14) from these schools have the opportunity to pursue more individualized instruction in small group classes at Third Street.
