Thioglucosidase

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In enzymology, a thioglucosidase (EC 3.2.1.147) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction

a thioglucoside + H2O \rightleftharpoons a sugar + a thiol

Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are thioglucoside and H2O, whereas its two products are sugar and thiol.

This enzyme belongs to the family of hydrolases, specifically those glycosidases that hydrolyse O- and S-glycosyl compounds. The systematic name of this enzyme class is thioglucoside glucohydrolase. Other names in common use include myrosinase, sinigrinase, and sinigrase. This enzyme participates in tryptophan metabolism.
