[edit] Template usage

{{This Date|subject|month|date|unused|misc-template}}

Parameter details:

  • 1: subject name - should fit the phrase "This date in (subject) history."
  • 2: month - numeric, 1=January through 12=December, no leading zeroes
  • 3: date - numeric, no leading zeroes
  • 4: LEAVE THIS EMPTY - reserved for future use
  • 5: miscellaneous info template name - if specified, the contents from the specified template name are appended as miscellaneous information at the bottom of the infobox e.g. Template:Baseball Links

For example:

{{This Date|baseball|9|7||Baseball Links}}

will generate the calendar, opening heading and the category for a page for 7 September in baseball history, appending the contents of Template:Baseball Links at the bottom of the info box.

Important: Use numeric month and date without leading zeroes. Leading zeroes will be appended as needed for the category sort key of Category:Dates in baseball.

Parameter 4 is reserved for alternate subject text, to alter the line "The following are the events in ..." line. But this should be left unused for now, until further parameter syntax work can make this work.

This template was mostly based on Template:This Date in Baseball History, and much gratitude goes to User:MusiCitizen for authoring that. This template extends the concepts from the baseball dates template into a generic dates in history template for any specified subject, collected under the category "Dates in (subject)".
