[edit] Retired

Well, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sorry if I had anything to contribute to it. This place does have some odd effects on people and I am just one of those people it effects sometimes, and apparently you too. :( Hope you decide to return one day ... — The King of Kings 04:42 June 30 '06

Why are we losing such a great editor? Please reconsider Matt... you were making this such a great place. -- Samir धर्म 05:33, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Take a break, but return

Dear Matt:

I want to say it has been a pleasure to work with you. Do take a break, but come back. You have made some real contributions, not the least is making my user page and sig "the bomb."

It can be a rough place, but there is a lot of satisfaction in knowing you can contribute to people's search for knowledge. Another suggestion is find some nice places away from heavy warfare to work. On the scale of things, very, very few pages have the heat you've found where we have been working. I've had to learn there are times it just makes sense to remember this is not real life and that you can walk away for awhile and come back. The pages aren't going away. I remind myself that the Martin Luther page was a stub when I arrived three years ago, but is a much better piece now. Most of what we're arguing about now is small potatoes to most readers. It is only for us whose faith is tied up in one view of this man or another that the points are really crucial enough to scream. yell and stamp virtual feet. In a few weeks, everyone will tire of it, go away and return to edit, and, yes, probably fight another day. Hopefully, the finished product will be worth it.

No matter what you decide, you've shown us what can be done with TOCs. Come back in a few months and see what becomes of it. Bob--CTS Wyneken 11:14, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mr. Matt!

Awwww....you're welcome, Mr. Matt. (I hope you'll let me call you that) You're one of the greatest people I've met who can design awesome webpages, and you're just a wonderful person. Please come back soon, my friend. ØřêōşGo Italia! 12:41, 30 June 2006 (UTC) P.S. Please come back!

That was kind of sudden! but thanks for the departure message. So you have "seen what this place has done to people, and I have decided to not let it happen to me". This sounds pretty horrible. Now i'm beginning to wonder what i have become, that bad?  ;) Enjoy your break and you can always edit sporadically. Good luck. David D. (Talk) 14:29, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Good luck! Ian¹³/t 20:12, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE:Leaving

While I respect your choice and understand what you mean, I hope that one day you can return; there may be those who try their best to make others miserable, I agree. Some of these people may be well-established members of the community, unfortunately. However, in the end what matters is that we're resisting them and helping improve this wonderful project. Secondly, don't feel like you're letting anyone down; just by clicking that sign up button, you made a difference. You gave up your own time, on your own free will, with no obligations, and helped improve Wikipedia. For that, you should be very proud.

On a more personal note, I'm sorry I couldn't finish your picture; sadly, I can't pack a few bags and live on my userpage. Real life must always disrupt Wikiactivity in the end. However, I wish you best of luck in your future endeavours, whatever they may be, and hope that maybe one day we meet again. Cheers and good luck, Master of Puppets Giant Enemy Crab! 20:41, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The quote

Thanks for the note! The goal in these articles is represent scholarly points of view, and this is one of them. The point of the scholar is, beyond the rhetoric, Luther did not pursue a campaign of arm-twisting, pressuring, etc. to persecute Jews on a racial basis. As always, proposing to change the mix of quotations is not objectionable. On controversial issues like this, however, it is much better to talk about them first to see what others have to say. I suspect with your respectful way, you might just bring us all along with you. Just be super careful not to even seem to attack anyone (as I'm sure you will do), especially McCain, who is inclined less to charity.

As for my personal view, you may have missed it. (I stated it months ago the last time this all came up). I have no problem calling Luther anti-semitic in the broader sense that is used today. This is a part of the sinner side of the Reformer, one that goes well beyond his hatred of the Jews. He says similarly vile things about the pope, the turks (Muslims), the Anabaptists and others. He vented his anger at one time or other, at almost everyone, including himself. (he does seem to exempt his wife and his prince) It was uncalled for, and, in light of what he said earlier in his life, he should have known better.

What I'm looking for is a fair representation of the evidence as the scholarship of the issue. The near-unanimous opinion of Luther scholars is that Luther's hatred was entirely religious. This must be made clear. In addition, quite a few do not believe that Luther's vile words had much influence until the Nazis adopted him. Wallmann's article documents that contention. This is what I'm currently going to the mat to be sure is included. If all sides would give each other a break (even though I think Robert Michael takes Luther's rhetoric way too seriously, you'll note I've not questioned its presence in the article) we could achieve a text acceptable to all sides. It doesn't appear that my sparring partners are inclined to do that, however. --CTS Wyneken(talk) 12:02, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

I observed that. Is less of a warning than an observation. I've know McCain in real life for nearly ten years. --CTS Wyneken(talk) 18:43, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Don't Go!!!!

Mr. Matt(I'm still calling you that, hehe!) I'm not really leaving....I'm just attempting to adjust to my new schedule, seeing as I am out of school, my best friend and I aren't fighting, and I now have Nelly Furtado's new CD. :) (Yeah, I just got out. My school has a horrible calendar.) I'm probably too addicted so I'll make some more edits anyway. *pokes score on the test thingy that is now a userbox* ØřêōşGo Italia! 23:53, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

It's just my nature to correct someone on their grammar/spelling, but you used the wrong 'your'. :D
I see pretty much no difference, Mr. Matt, from when you last posted on my talk page. :P *looks around* Ohhhh....I like it. :D I'd say put 'Thetruthbelow' and then, using the things, put 'AKA Matt B' which links to your talk page or something. :D ØřêōşGo Italia! 00:04, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Pope-gregory-i-1-sized.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Pope-gregory-i-1-sized.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 17:20, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Coin-animation2.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Coin-animation2.gif. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (email) (Contr.) 19:18, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Concordia Newsletter

NEWSLETTER

Concordia is currently trying to relaunch. I, and all the members of the ex-council, wish to welcome new members to the group. We are a group who aim to promote remaining civil, in an environment where messages can easily be interpretated wrongly.

[edit] Help out now!

  • Try and help people remain civil! Talk to them, and help them in any way possible. Do not be afraid to use the talk page.
  • Give people the Civility Barnstar.
  • Make and spread some Wikitokens so people know there are people to help if they want assistance.
  • Add banners or logos to your userpage to show your support.
  • Suggest some ideas! Add 'em to the talk page.

We are a community, so can only work though community contributions and support. It's the helping that counts.

[edit] Decision Making

The council expired one month ago, but due to the current position of the group the current council will remain until the position of the group can be assessed, and whether it would be sensible to keep Concordia going. For most decisions, however, it will be decided by all who choose to partake in discussions. I am trying to relaunch because of the vast amounts of new members we have received, demonstrating that the aims are supported.

If you wish to opt of of further talk-page communications, just let us know here.

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:LogoHeader.gif

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:LogoHeader.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:16, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Offical Reader of MM.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Offical Reader of MM.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 04:57, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
