I'm sorry that you first edit here to an article was reverted (by me, no less). I feel a sentence like the one you proposed could work in the lead. I was just concerned that the disambiguation header at the top was already too long, and that it put too much weight on the Jesus Seminar, whom we hardly cite in the article. If you want, you can discuss these matters further on the article talk page at Talk:Historical Jesus, or boldly jump in and edit the article again.
