[edit] Question LSH

Discussion moved to Talk:List of comic book superpowers - jc37 16:41, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Would like your opinion

I am tempted to use a manga example for the matter ingestion super power. Im not sure if your familier with Full Metal Alchemist,(Im not that interested in it) but the character of Gluttony would fit perfectly in my view. Since manga is simply the name most used for japenese comics it shouldnt be a problem, but my issue is that the anime that spawned from it has a much wider appeal so im not sure if it would be worth arguing for its postion. I know how upset people get when someone puts on a Naruto example. Those of course are taken off for obvious reasons.Thefro552

Well, I don't know. Though typically if it's not DC or Marvel (though a few other publishers' examples exist), my experience is that they delete. (Which probably isn't the fair thing to do, I dunno.)
I tried to propose that we discuss some of these things, but after CovenantD's response, the discussion seemed to die.
By the way, you were right about Cottonmouth. I was thinking "matter-eater", even though it's "matter ingestion".
Hope this helps... (and watching your page for response : ) - jc37 05:46, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
I know that is the problem. Even though its is a comic its not the kind of comic that people are use too.
I have been toying with the idea of starting a thread to bring the subject up.
I know CovenentD would probably be a strong supporter against it becuase its not typical super hero lore. The use of anything related to anime seems to me to have a sorta stigma agianst it.
But technically it has its roots in the comics and both incarnations have the power.
This sucks. .Thefro552
I hope you won't let it get you down : )
Personally I've been thinking about the examples. They are (by far) the most edited part of the list. I am thinking maybe we should entirely restructure how the examples are presented. What do you think? - jc37 20:45, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
I think that should be a last option. Doing that might only cause more problems. I am going to add the character and see how long it stays. If it is change soon after then I will bring up a discussion and see what the other users think.
Oh and what do you think of the new introduction phrase? Thefro552
Fine with me... I was thinking that maybe we should move the page to List of superhuman powers in comic books. What do you think? - jc37 03:05, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
To me that name just sounds a bit too long. I like title as it is, i dont think that needs to be changed. What i think does need change is the intro. Somewhere in it i think that it needs to be stated that two examples is good. Obviously people are going to come up with exceptions but thats to be expected. Im sure you have one or two. Also i think it needs to be more clearly stated that only characters from comics books can be used. This might deter some of the Heroes and Naruto addisions. Just some thoughts, would like you response. Thefro552
Well, the idea is to follow through with the renaming conventions used at Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2006 September 23#super strength, using "superhuman", to clarify "super-". List of superhuman powers in comic books is also better grammatically. : ) - jc37 21:31, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Linking

Dang i need your help. The character Gluttony doesnt have his own page. He is apart of a list. Is there a way to make a link that sends you too a certain part of a list?Thefro552

Give me the link to the list? - jc37 03:05, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
[1] - Its the character Gluttony in case you missed it. Thefro552
[[Homunculi of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga#Gluttony]] - Which looks like Homunculi of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga#Gluttony. If you don't want that to show, you can do this: [[Homunculi of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga#Gluttony|Gluttony]] - which will looks like this: Gluttony. Hope that helps. - jc37 03:17, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks thats exactly what i needed. Now its time to see if anything happens. Thefro552

[edit] Help

I need you help. I was editing the powers on the Foolkiller page when something went nuts. I cant figure out how to get the superhero box to appear. If you figure it out can you tell me what I did. Thefro552 7:22, 18 Nov 2006

I think (hopefully) Xanderer fixed it already. : ) - jc37 04:43, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Superheroboxes

Powers should be listed with commas in the boxes per Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Superherobox example. Please fix the edits you have made in this regard. Thanks, Chris Griswold () 23:53, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

When do you plan to fix these? --Chris Griswold () 21:10, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Notice: There should not be any <br/> code in there. --Chris Griswold () 21:12, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

I did about half of the List of Marvel characters that way, it will take some time but Im doing it as fast as I can. I was planning on going through the list again and conforming it to the example you gave me. All I ask is that you have a little patience please. Thefro552 04:10, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Just an update, Im finished up through the B's so far. Thefro552 17:32, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
How is this going, by the way? --Chris Griswold () 00:37, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Well I ended up starting over again, along with the work Im doing I have added on removing all the redlinks that I couldnt account for from the list itself. Currently Im up into the D's and just cleaning up stuffed I missed and the new characters that have been placed on. Thefro552 00:41, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Good job. I appreciate the work you're doing. --Chris Griswold () 00:50, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sorry to bother

I dont mean to bother you but I was wondering if you could take a look at a user for me. I happened to stumble upon the Stone Cold Steve Austin page and edited a little. Not long after I discovered a user you keeps vandalizing the page. I posted a message on his talk telling him to stop but he has continued to vandalize the page.

Now I really dont mean to bother you with this but you are the only administrator that I really know so I was hopeping you could give me a hand. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :) Thefro552 13:07, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Forgot to put the user. 124.30.5.83 Thefro552 13:09, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

First, you're not a bother : )

That said, I'm not certain what you're looking for. The IP seems to have stopped. I think you and User Batsnumbereleven did the right thing and informed the IP user about vandalism and Wikipedia's policies/guidelines.

Don't lose heart! Some pages just undergo a fair amount of vandalism (see Superman). Just do as you have been: Revert and move on.

Also, it may be helpful to read over WP:VAND, and Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism.

Hope this helps : ) - jc37 21:48, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Male adult bio

{{Male adult bio}} is for articles about male porn stars. You can use this for your user page if you subst it. --Chris Griswold () 00:28, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Its gone. Thefro552 00:30, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Removing redlinks

Hi. There used to be a template saying an article had too many redlinks, but that went out of use after a policy change. Unless there's a specific compelling reason stated in the edit summary or on the talk page, policy is not to remove most redlinks. Please discuss with the rest of the Comics Project before proceeding. Thanks. --Tenebrae 03:23, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A little assistance please

I need some help. While I was finding new characters to put on the list of Marvel characters I came upon a few that didnt have user boxes. Thats when a thought came to try and see if I could place a new box on the page, for experience.

Well I think I did everything ok but the picture doesnt look right. I cant figure out what to do to fix it. I tried reading up on it but I dont know if I missed it or was looking in the wrong place but if you could show me what I did wrong I would really appreciate it.

The two pages are Copperhead and Slither

Thefro552 02:19, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Ok, fixed Slither myself but I cant figure out how too clarify the pic for Copperhead. Thefro552 02:04, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I'm not exactly certain what you're wanting to do. Could you clarify? - jc37 12:07, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Oh sorry. Its the blurriness of the images. Slither isnt to bad but Copperhead is terrible. Im not sure if there is anything that can be done though. It might just be a bad image. Thefro552 14:27, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
I don't believe anything can be done by us about blurriness on the Wikipedia side. - jc37 15:45, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Redlinks

Also do you know what policy they are talking about in the discussion above this one. Its about the red links I was removing off of the List of Marvel Characters. Thefro552 14:27, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

I've seen some of the discussion. AFAIK, typically, redlinks on lists are acceptable, as they help with future development and navigation among other things. There's also been recent consensus that removing redlinks may not be as appropriate as it may have been in the past. Could you restate why you were removing them? - jc37 15:45, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Well personally I beleived that the page looked a bit more professional with out them. To me it was like having a table of contents with pages that werent in the book, it didnt make sense. On top of that from what I saw it seemed that a majority of the links were very minor characters that would not have had much information anyway. Thefro552 16:29, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Well, having such a ToC redlinked may help with future development. As for the latter reason, removing redlinks from truly minor characters might seem at first to be helpful, but since the dividing line between minor and major could be seen as subjective, it might be better to discuss the changes first, or at least list them on the talk page with reasons why. See Talk:List of generic and genericized trademarks#Ditto for a past example where I did something similar. Hope this helps. - jc37 16:34, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of Marvel Comics characters

Okey-doke. As per your suggestion, I've put a request for comment at Talk:List of Marvel Comics characters. Civil discourse -- much better than some previous dealings with some other editors! Good Wiki'ing and good wishes -- Tenebrae 03:39, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I know what you mean. Every time I revert an edit like that Im expecting the other editor to get defensive. Thefro552 03:42, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "You're Welcome"

By which I mean, "thank you"! :P ~ZytheTalk to me! 11:19, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thing's speed

I was wondering why you added the Thing as having superhuman speed on his page? He's a slow lumbering being. I have an old "Marvel Two in one" comic, (this one http://www.spiderfan.org/comics/images/marvel_two_in_one/090.jpg ) and there is a panel where Spidey and the Thing are chasing the evil wizard through Central Park. Spidey goes "Come on Ben hurry up". And the Thing (who's lumbering behind) replies "Alright Alright. This chassis aint exactly built for speed you know." Giantdevilfish 13:50, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

As has been stated before in the article history, in the past the Thing has displayed moments of superhuman speed through combination of his superhuman stamina and lung capacity. Though this is rare it has not been retconned so it still applies. Thefro552 14:56, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User 75.176.45.189

You and I are probably the most staunt supporters of keeping the Thing's superhuman speed mentioned in the superhero box. However, the annonymous editor 75.176.45.189, at least from what I've seen, isn't going to let it be. I left a message in this editor's user discussion page sometime yesterday inviting him/her to participate in the discussion or to provide some sources to back up his/her position on the issue. I also reminded him that by just removing info from the article time and time again simply because he/she disagrees with the info constitutes vandalism. Instead, the editor has erased the message I left yesterday and is still erasing it. Any suggestions on how to go about this, because its starting to get tiresome. Odin's Beard 00:18, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Im with you there. Its probably bad but anon users like these make me dislike all of them. I cringe when I see an edit made by one. The only thing we can do is give it time. If he doesnt want to particapate in the discussion and continues to change the edits for no reason then eventually it can be considered vandalism. Just have to wait. Thefro552 05:06, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
Find a citation for a the speed and put it i the box with the mention. Unless the editor can find a cited rebuttal, it should stay. --Future Fun Jumper (TIC) 05:15, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
I had requested that option earlier, I just wanted to get everyones opinion. Thefro552 05:50, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Flameninja

Sorry about the Edit I too Love the Comic Book super powers and even edited some Comic book superHeroes. Once you read this you can edit it out. By the Way it was Origanlly a joke. But if you don't mind Could you tell me Where you go this stuff down here.Down

This all of this. I'm real sorry to bother. -User:Flameninja311 12:57, 10 March 2007

Thanks you were alot of help. Sorry for saying stuff all weird and stuff and I'll try my best not to vandalize, but help Wiki. And sorry for putting it in your user page Still a newbie with wiki talk thing. - Flameninja311 1:50 10 March, 2007 (EST).

No problem, Im still learning myself, but if you have any questions feel free to ask. If I cant answer them then I can find someone who can. Thefro552 20:35, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dormammu

It isn't POV: Dormammu isn't a true demon. It can be argued that he became one, but he didn't start as one. Like in the same way that Peter Parker is technically a mutant (or rather a mutate), so Dormammu is technically a demon. A true demon would have been 'born' one. After all, his sister Umar isn't considered a demon and they're technically both the same species. HalfShadow 01:12, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Who can consider him a demon? Is there any comic basis for this assumption? Where is it stated that has become one. Your statement is written in a POV format. What you might perceive in that sense is irrelvent. Not to mention that entire statement doesn't belong in the Powers and abilities section. Thefro552 01:19, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
It's stated in the stat-box and in fact, the first sentence of the entry that he's a demon. I just felt it deserved some mention that he didn't actually start as a demon, but he made himself into one. He transformed himself into pure mystical energy after he became ruler of the Dark Dimension and, in essence became a demon. [2]HalfShadow 01:23, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
Well thats noble but after taking a look through the links on his page nothing even states he is a demon. He is an extra dimensional being of great power. Find reference for this statement and then it will work. Until then I am going to change the box itself. Thefro552 01:33, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
That works, too. Really, the whole point of my edit was that he wasn't really a demon anyway, so I'm still getting essentially what I want. HalfShadow 02:13, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm just trying to make the entry as thorough as possible. I mean no harm nor do I mean to cause trouble, but my edit history can attest to that. HalfShadow 01:41, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

First, please don't remove comments off a talk page, its against wiki policy. Second, I might be missing it but that link still doesn't say anything about him being a demon. In fact the only thing I can find that states that he might be a demon is the demonic enitity link from the beggining paragraph. This also cannot be taken as evidence per wiki policy about using other pages as references.
Also I apologize for my harsh tone, repeated reverts to anon users who believe there POV is better than everyone elses tends to grait your nerves after awhile. Thefro552 01:49, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

I didn't remove anything. I added to my first reply but that's it. HalfShadow 01:53, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I see. I must have added that just as you replied, so it reverted. Sorry. HalfShadow 01:54, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

No problems. Thefro552 02:09, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Iron Man and Technopathy

I saw your reversion recently saying that Iron Man is not technopathic. However, he has been technopathic for a while. There was a recent (past 2 or 3 years) story arc which involved him being attacked by a virus of some kind. The outcome of that story arc is that his body suit which connects him to the Iron Man armor is now part of him and internalizes when not in use. It has allowed him to also control computers, cell phones and PDAs. He may have lost this ability in the last year, I have not kept up.

Since someone could reasonablly not be aware of this component of the character, I see no problem with leaving him off of the example, as having Forge there is a good enough example, but I just wanted to let you know about it. Slavlin 19:36, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I found it out myself.

Thanks for replying anyway, I found this info myself, why else would you think I'd revert myself? Just asking. TheBlazikenMaster 23:26, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Now was that necessary?

Re" "What you think is irrevalent. Yours is personal opinion. It doesnt matter. You have no logical reason to make it so. We wouldn't be having this argument if you had a solid point, Everything began with Superman doesnt, doesnt mean anything. Thefro552 02:30, 30 October 2007 (UTC)"

Now was that even remotely necessary? You and the other person had both expressed your views and he said he'd just wait to see what other people thought. Belittling someone's opinion as irrelevant rather than offering any new information just comes across as uncivil. Taking a jab at somebody doesn't help the project. You can disagree with other people without insulting their logic or calling their opinions worthless. Doczilla 03:06, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
I stand by my remark. I was stating a fact. His opinion that something should happen doesnt mean anything if its not backed up by a real reason. I tried to argue with the facts and his attitude tied with his seemingly personal goal of having Superman where he wanted is was brought it about. Thefro552 11:53, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
I'd like you both to "stand down", a bit. I "think" I understood what Thefro was attempting to say, but there were words used which, due to vague usage, could be taken as stronger than meant or intended.
But besides that... He's right. An opinion that "Everything began with Superman..." " doesn't mean anything". I know that I'm preaching to the choir when reminding about WP:V.
Now could that have been said better, or at least more tactfully? Probably. How about apologies all around? Looks like merely a miscommunication to me. (Though I welcome clarification, if you feel I'm misinterpreting your comments.) - jc37 03:57, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Need assistance

Im not sure if you have been watching the discussion of the List of superpowers page but if you can Id like you to take a look. I have been trying to find the precident where we came to the conclusion of having no repeat examples but its been such a long time. Im not having any luck in finding it to present further evidence against placing characters like Superman under every power that they have. A little help or a say in the conversation would be appreciated. Thefro552 23:17, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

I was watching at first, but apparently missed the more recent developments. I have commented there. - jc37 03:49, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: List of comic book superpowers

First of all, a warning against edit warning.

Secondly, you quoted a "page guidelines" which appear to not exist in the page or talk page. Please provide the location of the "page guideline" to which you refer.

I have reverted your edits for edit warring. If you have a problem with someone's edits, it is YOUR job to take it to the talk page, not simply edit-war. You are as guilty of edit warring with user:ForeverFreeSpeech as he is of edit warring with you, with the added problem that you are currently violating WP:BITE and WP:CIVIL with your behavior.
