>for the past year i have used this site as a simple resource, and never found a reason to register.
- Why would you unless you edit?
>last month i started making a game called logical dirt with little intent of selling it.
- odd name, at least you weren't trying to make money, OSS all the way!
>i managed to make it worth playing two weeks ago, and i posted it on a site devoted to games made with the program i had used.
- program i had used - these types of games are usually all similar, and don't warrant a page each, but a lit maybe?
>only about 3 people downloaded it, and nobody commented on it.
- If only 3 people downloaded it then it is almost certainly not notable. If you can provide a lnk to your game, I will download it, and if it is notable then I will write a page about it.
>after two weeks of doing other things, i got back to trying to show people this game, and i started by trying to make an article about the game
- That's a no-no, what I call a vanity page, what some people call spam
>without really understanding how to make an article look all spiffy like so many others, i started by giving it a name and a short introduction and saved it out of habit, and continued adding to it, after a few minutes i tried to save it and found that it was being discussed for deletion. i feel this was rather unfair since i hadn't even started to form this article, i got rather irritated and just finished up what I had written. I don't think that i can stand this environment, it seems that the people in charge of deleting articles have become so used to it that they don't think too much about it, if people waited for a while before deciding to raise the subject of deleting a new article, they might have found it to be worth keeping when it got improved.
- If you are trying to finish editing an article before it is read, then use the 'preview' button (to the right of the 'save' button). If you are looking for some pointers on how to format an article, ask someone (such as me). I'd also like to say that there are around 1000 people who have the power to delete, there aren't enough pages for them to get used to it.
>i don't feel to happy with the way that my first article went, very discouraging to have it considered for deletion before i even have a whole paragraph. i think that these people should pay more attention to the timestamp before effectively disabling the article.. perhaps they could send me a message and ask me what i intend to do rather than giving the article an eviction notice.
- Actually, people look at pages as soon as they are made (again, use preview) so a lot of pages are deleted in a few minutes of creation. I always try to warn people to ensure notability five minutes before nomination, this is not the case for most though.
For possible reasons why your article was deleted, read some of these pages:
- Wikipedia:Notability (software) - Your software may not have been notable enough for inclusion
- Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not a soapbox - Wikipedia is not a soapbox, you should not use it for the purpose of advertising
- WP:CSD - Criteria for speedy deletion, for other reasons.
- Wikipedia:Vanity#Effectiveness of vanity articles - This is relevant to you
The community here has a ton of pages that will tell them when a page is created (like this one). If the page is not worth the server space then they may talk to an admin or list it for deletion (in a very short space of time).
As a general rule:
- Don't create a page unless it is about something widely known.
- Don't create a page that only you can possibly expand on.
- Do a google test to find out how notable the page is.
- Don't create a half-written page, use the preview button.
- Provide a link to a reputable review of the game.
If your game can still be found on the net, drop a note (and a link) on my talk page and I'll check it out. Have a nice day and don't give up on editing, there are nasty editors out there, but most of us are nice. I will check the deletion log to find out who deleted the page, and inform them that their actions offended you, but don't feel insulted about it. Again, have a nice day (It's night over here in Australia, but i don't know where you live). MichaelBillington 09:51, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Don't be discouraged!
Hi, I'm the one who listed your page for deletion. It wasn't because it was bad, it was because it failed to meet the criteria for a 'notable' game. Don't give up, just argue your case and see if the game itself gets a few comments/responses. Cheers!--69.145.123.171 20:06, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
