[edit] Linking

Please stop inserting links to horse racing articles. You are not checking that the links are correct or appropriate. You are only creating work for other people in fixing your errors. This could be construed as vandalism. Please stop and learn how and when to insert links. - Cuddy Wifter 07:21, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi Cuddy,

It's not meant to be "vandalism" just adding links to topics / horses etc that should be on wikipedia. I do understand what you say though. I am very much so a novice vis-a-vis wikipedia editing.--The judge and jury 08:24, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

G'day Judge,
Welcome to the wonderful world of Wikipedia, especially that of thoroughbred racing. Sorry if I came across as a bit strong in my earlier comment, but I have over 300 pages on my "watchlist" and you were making so many edits to pages on my list that its was difficult to keep up with them all. I would ask you to go back and check that the links that you made go to the correct page. You will find a number are "redlinks", or go to disambiguation pages. The problem with horserace names is that many of them have other meanings eg. the 1994 AJC Derby winner Mahogany, the 1992 winner Naturalism and the 1904 winner Poseidon.
If you want advice on thoroughbred articles, or wish to ask a question, could I recommend that you check out talk:WikiProject Thoroughbred racing, and perhaps add your name to the WikiProject Thoroughbred racing page.
Regarding horse racing topics which should be on Wikipedia, particularly relating to Australia and New Zealand, take a look at Australian and New Zealand punting glossary to see if an entry here would be sufficient rather than a new article.
Here are some other pages you may find helpful:

[edit] Age of Racehorses

Hi The judge and jury. Regarding your new article Age of racehorses, I was wondering if the information there really deserved its own article or if it was information that could simply be merged into Horse racing (in its own section, perhaps?)?--Veesicle 14:20, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding your will to help

Hello :). As I can see I wont need to send you that marvelous table on the top of your user talk page. Use it repeteadly as if it were your bible :).

Then about your will to help. If you got idea about how to improve an article. You will have to follow a verry strict wikipedia policy first ... Be Bold !. That's right begin right now to edit those horse page, and add stuff that you think fit in those article.

Regarding the addition of horse picture, I must warn you that wikipedia only accept picture wich are not covered by copyright (wich is implicitly the case of every picture you will find on the internet. The author of a picture have all right reserved, releasing right must be explicit not implicit. If you got picture that you created yourself and want to use them in wikipedia. Consider releasing them in the public domain or if you preffer to keep some right on the picture (typically : you must remember the origin of this picture, or if you modify this picture, you need to release your derrivative work under the license I just gave you) consider to use a [Common] License. If you find picture free of right, it's even better.

For the rest of your contribution (don't forget the copyright. copy and paste of stuff you find on a website is -bad- because stuff you publish in wikipedia is automaticly published under a lgpl license) be bold ! If you do something wrong, you will get eddited. If you think that those edit are wrong, go to the talk page of the article and discuss this issue.

Oh btw, you should perhaps read the WP:NOT Policy. Wich could really help you to understand how wikipedia works.

Have a nice day Esurnir 07:25, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

And before I forget : verrify if the top jocker are notable enough before creating a page from him, but I guess that the top jockers may desserve a wikipedia page. WP:NN

Same about those competition, ask yourself : Are they really important ? Are they notable outside your town/county/state ? Are they something that jockers know about ? If yes, please help yourself, if not try to seek an article about competitions and add these competitions.

No definitions : WP:NOT#DICT please go to wikitionary if you want definitions.

For horse don't remember : Notability ! Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate source of information. It's an encyclopedia. And you wont find information about every horse in the world in a serious encyclopedia :) . Only place the horse that may be famous. The other probably don't desserve an article.

Well that's all that come to my mind, if you got question, come to my talk page :) . Esurnir 07:37, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Please use preview

[edit] Carefull!

Be careful when using information sourced from other parts of the internet and using it as factual. It is often not. For example much of the information you have used from http://www.australianracingrecords.com is horribly out of date. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dark horse racing (talkcontribs) 03:01, 23 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Elvstroem

G'day Judge, The reason for my deleting your edit was not because I disagreed with your comment about Haradasun, but that it was irrelevant to the subject of the article, which is the racehorse Elvstroem. Conjecture on who may be favourite for a future race should not be part of any encyclodedia article. - Cuddy Wifter 02:13, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Millionaire racehorses in Australia

Good work on the list, but I do have a question about the list. What are the criteria?

For example horses like Delta Blues, Pop rock etc have won over a million dollars in prizemoney in Australia - no problems there.

However horses like Elegant Fashion won LESS than $1M in Australia ($842,600 to be exact)the rest was all won in Hong Hong..... If she is going to be included then what about horses like Subscribe who won $64,000 in Australia before being sold to Hong Kong and winning over a million as Vengeance of Rain? You could go even further - Silent witness never won any money in Australia (only a trial for David Hall) before being sold.

The criteria for inclusion needs to be consistent, this is an encyclopedia after all.

Keep up the Good Work (dark horse 06:12, 25 January 2007 (UTC))

Hey Dark Horse,

Good questions and I have certainly considered them before now. (It would be have been so much easier if Aus horses never ran OS and vice versa :) )

I guess the list could be broken down into:

1) Millionaire (horses) who won every cent in Australasia (obviously!)

2) Millionaires who mainly raced here but ran overseas as well (e.g. Sunline, Monopolize , Falvelon etc etc)

3) Millionaires who just visited from overseas. (Vinnie Roe, cape of Good Hope)

4) Millionaires who emigrated here after racing in another country (Jeune, Tawqeet)

5) Millionaires who started here and moved overseas (Elegant Fashion, Vengeance of Rain)

Category 1 is a cinch. I think every horse that was more or less trained in Aus or NZ but earned international prizemoney (Category 2) must be included. Of course a horse like Monopolize probably wouldnt make the list less his HK earnings. But I ultimately have him cos he was trained here and had the million plus purse. I really think it would be stupid to exclude such a horse or a hypothetical one which wins 700k here and then 350k in say, Singapore. (Hmm that sounds like North Boy.)

SO...if a horse can appear on the list despite having won less than a mill in Australia how can I exclude Elegant Fashion? Am I wrong to think of her as an ex-pat? Even then, ultimately, like North Boy, she raced in Australia many times and finished over the million mark. So at the very least I have to include Elegant Fashion. (I'd include VOR. I just haven't found his prizemoney earnings yet!)

The overseas visitors do raise some issues. Horses like Grandera (i think I should include) only won about 250k here. Horses like Habour Dues (in M&P's Cup) won less than 100k here. Then there have been horses like Oscar Schindler who (i assume) are millionaires, raced here but did not win one cent. Im still working out how to handle all this. I think including Oscar Schindler would be misleading. Certainly Elegant Fashion with almost a mill here can partially 'thank' Australia for getting over the million mark. I have put an asterisk against some such horses as EF and I will add a footnote about them. (The Millionare article is still a work in progress to some extent).

I think the best for criteria is :

1) a horse must have raced here and earned money. 2) the horse must have earned one million dollars or more.

Obviously that'd exclude Silent Witness. I guess Im ultimately looking where horses are / were trained. (I added "NZ" and "IRE" beside some names for thisreason.) Isn't SW considered unraced here? Wouldnt a horse that had 20 trials here but end up never racing appear in pedigrees etc as "unraced"?

Ultimaely I would have the above 2 criteria and leave it at that. (No horse in the list fails them, do they?) I think some horses need a little footnote. And I think it might be wise to have additional lists at the bottom mentioning Oscar S etc, who did race here but dont really have australia to 'thank' for their millions PLUS a list of notable horses who won less than one million (archer, gunsund, phar lap, tulloch, todman, bernborough etc etc) combined with those in the 900k's, so readers wouldnt keep commenting thatt God's Own, Reset , Hurricane Sky, Kaaptive Edition, Te Akau Nick etc etc should be on the list. But I havent got to adding this all yet.--The judge and jury 07:15, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] No spam allowed

A tag has been placed on User:203.0.237.32, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group or service and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

[edit] Category removals for Category:Famous horses

This category is intentionally removed from the racehorse articles. Please see the category talk page for the reason. Malc82 10:25, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

G'day Judge, sorry for not pointing out in my edit comment why I was deleting the Famous horse category. I have now added "see Category talk:Famous horses" to my edit. There were over 1000 articles tagged as Famous horses, and the numbers were growing by the day. Anyone looking for for a particular sub-category of horse would have to click through several pages to find it. If we make the Famous horse page mainly a list of sub-categories, then it will be easier to find the different type of horse. Regards - Cuddy Wifter 23:13, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
