Ambitious Project

Sure! Thanks for the input on the box. Vice President In Charge Of Office Supplies 12:17, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Oh, one more thing. How do I become more experienced at this wiki stuff quickly? It's getting somewhat addicting. Vice President In Charge Of Office Supplies 12:26, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Experience comes from being bold (as they say around here!). I've been doing this for nearly a year and a half now and I make plenty of mistakes. The key things I've learnt are:
  1. Don't be afraid to copy people's ideas - imitation is the best form of flattery!
  2. Use the preview button often!
  3. Don't be afraid to ask questions! When you get to know a few more users then feel free to talk to them and ask specific questions.
You are always welcome to leave messages for me to ask me questions, I'll do my best to either answer them directly or find the answers and get back to you. Keep up the good work, and by all means get in touch again. Budgiekiller 12:35, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Some More Help

I was wondering if you could help me out, some people are claiming that i'm a "sockpuppet" because I live in Merrimack, New Hampshire, the same town as some guy who apparently has pissed off the powers that be around here. This isn't the first time, and I was wondering if there was a way to end the harrassment. Vice President In Charge Of Office Supplies 21:44, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks so much for your support on my RFA, which closed successfully this morning with a result of (64/3/3). Link removal

You removed a link to unit on Weierstrass preparation theorem. While links to disambiguation pages aren't desirable, simply taking them away is not the correct solution. In this case, assuming you didn't know the intended meaning, the right approach would be to note the issue on the talk page there. Charles Matthews 21:21, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

On checking your further edits, you have caused similar issues at these pages:

Okay! Thanks for letting me know! Budgiekiller 08:22, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for welcome!

Hi there, cool t-shirt link you have. And so many countries you visited. Why are Israel, Jordan (with the Indiana Jones scenery of Petra), and Iraq not on your wish list? Happily ever after 15:24, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi there to you too! Glad you approve of the link to Threadless. The wish list of places to go, strictly speaking, should contain the flag of every country I've never been to, so the places you've mentioned are on the list, just not the short version! Budgiekiller 15:29, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
I can definitely recommend Cuba, seen the movie Paraíso? It's about a rap fusion band from Guantánamo. Lovely. Happily ever after 16:03, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, it's on the short list. I've got a four month sabbatical planned in a couple of year's time, and Cuba's on the itinerary! Haven't seen the fillm you mention, but I'm keen on World cinema so I'll check it out, cheers! Budgiekiller 16:35, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Mets501, aka Vandals, shut 'cho mouf!

No problem! heheh. Actually, I couldn;t resist. I take issue with certain people who only contribute by "taking away." It's disruptive, and it bugs me. And he never responded anyway, boo! -FateSmiled&DestinyLaughed 23:26, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Thank you, but not

Thank you for helping me by suggesting the sub-stub catagory on my unfinished article, but please put future suggestions on my talk page instead of editing my user page yourself. Cheers, —Ruff Bark away!

Wow, sorry for causing any offence. I was working my way through the enormous backlog here and your page was listed amongst a couple of hundred other {{stub}} pages. Rest assured I won't go near any of your pages in the future, I apologise unreservedly for trying and apparently failing to help make the Wikipedia a more accurate place. Budgiekiller 06:39, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Whoops! Sorry for being so sensitive. I didn't recognize that you were working on an important project. No offence taken. Ruff Bark away!

Stalking

Why do you keep stalking me. hy don't you get a job, and stop stalking. You get rid of every page i do like a stalker. Why? I hate what you do. Are you disbaled, i can only tolerate you if you are disabled, if you are not then what are you up to, spending your life stalking. I can can escape you anyway. I put thouadsn of page on wikipedia that you have not found so there. And only the stalker as an issue. It is not advertising you stalking If you are not disabled then I cannot comprend why you do this. If you are not diabled then i hate you. If you are disabled then i half apologise, but i will escape youir stalking. If you are disabled show your wheelchair in the your picture. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Acacaz (talkcontribs)

Thank you for your question. The reason I have reverted the pages that you have editted under a variety of user names is that, in general, they contravene WP:EL and therefore your edits will normally be reverted with the summary "rv linkspam". Please do not take this personally as I would revert any change to a page which constitutes a breach of policy. I am glad you enjoy using and editting Wikipedia and encourage you to do it further in a constructive and useful way. Modifying my user page likethis will not encourage me to stop checking your edits, nor will calling me a "Bullying Paedo" or a "dick" or "disbaled". See you around! All-boys

Hi . There is no such word as all-boy that I can see. I know it is in common usage but you're being a trifle pedantic. Proper grammar shouldn't be challenged. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=all-boy&x=33&y=19 Palx 07:22, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Um, I know Google is not flawless but "all-boys" hits 1.68 million pages, so to say that "There is no such word as all-boy" is a trifle understatement. And as for being pedantic, you were the editor that changed the article from "all-boys" to "for boys only" which most could consider a pedantic edit. As for "challenging grammar", I did no such thing. If you didn't blank your talk page so frequently, you'd be able to see that I simply pointed out that the phrase is used commonly throughout the UK. In the future, could you please edit my talk page in the conventional location, i.e. at the bottom of the page, instead of mid-way through another user's comments. Cheers! Budgiekiller 07:39, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
To resolve the issue amicably, I've modified the page to refer to Single-sex school which hopefully will satisfy your quest for "Proper grammar"! Cheers! Budgiekiller 07:50, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Since it's clearly so important to you and not wishing to spoil your day any further, I've changed it back. You can relax now. Cheerio. :) Palx 14:11, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi again! No, it's not in the slightest bit important to me! It's just I was surprised to see the edit in the first place! I've gone for the neutral solution which should please all people, and, by the way, I'm so relaxed I'm horizontal... ;-) Budgiekiller 15:24, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

How to tackle talk page comments for private and/or commercial purposes?

There is useful help on handling text inserted in an article mainly for the purpose of attracting unduly attention to a person, to a specific personal interest, or to a commercial business. There is also the principle of not changing or eliminating comments on talk pages. When a comment in an article's talk page fails to introduce anything of interest for the article, but clearly only intends to draw attention to a private or commercial interest, then what can and should we do about it?

Today I found on a formerly empty talk page for the municipality and city of Poperinge in Belgium, the information that the website of some Dutch member of the family 'van Popering' shows the name of the city to be related to the family name. As such is the case for just about any placename in Flanders and in the Netherlands, this anonymous comment is of no interest to the Wikipedia article but simply – and most likely intentionally – inappropriately draws attention to the personal website. Even the talk pages of Wikipedia should not serve this purpose. What should be done? — SomeHuman 8 Sep 2006 08:31 (UTC)

I've made some minor updates to the Putney page, hope you approve. As for the list, it might be fun to have a general list of players who've played on both sides of derby teams, including ITFC v budgies, Liverpool v Everton, City v United etc... Budgiekiller 11:45, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
  5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Thanks!

Re: Freak!

I am aware of "The Best Page in the Universe," though I don't know how you discerned that from my userpage...all I've got is a couple of links to Uncyclopedia. Elijah Wood Pages

Budgiekiller, my link has been on that article for over a year. And since you purged it, 2 more user's have added fansites and you haven't done anything to them. But I will take your advice and add Content to the movie articles, since you are singling me out. edwpat

Hello edwpat. Glad to see you have taken the WP:EL policy on-board! Your edit record shows that the first instance of this link was June 2006 and had been removed by Desertsky85451. I hope you understand that I am not singling anyone out, I am just trying to enforce WP:EL! Cheers! Budgiekiller 18:05, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Felt useful today. Followed your advice and managed to catch some vandalism on the site and turned it around. I think I'll keep a constant watch over this article. Thanks. edwpat

Hey, good for you! Keep up the good work... Budgiekiller 17:20, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about that Budgiekiller. When I expurged the vandal and restored the Title, I naturally put it as Elijah Jordan Wood. I probably should have reverted it instead of edit it out. Learning. edwpat

Not a problem at all! Budgiekiller 14:07, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Well Budgiekiller, Mike Z is not reponding to any inquiries (sort of a HIT and RUN). Is there anyway you can restore the materials deleted from the Everything Is Illuminated article and have discussions later. This way it will match other articles I've updated linked to Elijah Wood, which other editors have NOT deleted, but in fact have edited (nice of them to do so). The Green Street Hooligans particle was up before the one Mike Z zapped. Perhaps, all my work should be ZAP? Who know? Maybe I should ZAP myself, that is if I aspire to being a Langolier. Thanks edwpat

Well, someone ZAPPED my Green Street article. I'm exhasted by this and have perhaps wasted too much of my time farting around for other peoples agrandisement. Time I should use to finish edits for my Agent, so she can get my Novel circulating. I'm afraid that, in the words of Jane Austen, "once my good opinion is lost, it's difficult to recover," and since I am an opionated SOB when it comes to my BLOGs and NewsGroup correspondance, I will assuage my frustration in some sharply crafted articles on the perils of this website. I will come under criticism, I know, because several close friends maintain the G&S area here; I have not prevailed on them as editors to intervene because they are devoted to their subject matter and, frankly they are experts in their field. Thanks for your ear and attention, and if anything, know that the web is not ready for a writing zone ruled by an oligarchy - as Stephen King calls them - The Langoliers. But even langliers have a purpose, I guess. And fair is fair - when my Novel is published, y'all can boycott it by not devoting an article to it. edwpat - master of valedictory.

I'm a dork

Yes I had done some vandalism, as I am a dork and wont do anymore, I probably just will stop editing. However can you tell me exactly what the deal is with wikipedia and encyclopedia dramatica??? I cannot get a straight answer out of anyone here! I created a page on them that had violated nothing, it was very short, explaining that they are a saterical site paroding wikiprojects (from the best I can tell) and they are often profane. I also included how there has been some sort of controversy with wikipedia and the dramatica but no factual information exists on the conflict becuz encyclopedia dramatica is satrical and therefore can't count on their information and wikipedia doesn't have any info on them whatsoever. What is going on? Why is encyclopedia dramatica akin to the word "mordor" that isn't even supposed to be uttered aloud in the shire? Whatever is going on it smells, and I've tried asking other people on here with no response. And my page got deleted with no info or reason, what is up??? Not to have a protected page with npov factual info on something becuase it is anti-wikipedia (is thats whats going on?) sounds really fishy to me - it really makes it appear that some admins ban things just becuz of a grudge or something - I have no idea, but I'd like to know whats going on.

Please answer me, I promise I will not be negative or a problem for wikipedia in any way, I'm just a sometimes dumb kid. Thank you in advance for a thorough response. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ph133710101 (talkcontribs)
