Regarding Zhanliusc's survey
Take a look at this post on AN/I. FYI. Happy editing, KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 10:38, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I consider it spam. Thanks for the heads up. The Rambling Man 10:58, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- No problem. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 11:06, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

How do i deal with this? It's a threat, sort of. Should I simply ignore it or do something? нмŵוτнτ 14:04, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I just wanted to make sure that's what I should do, and I didn't want to seem overeager to block. Now, I know. Thanks, Rambling Man! нмŵוτнτ 14:14, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes please, any review or comments to help get West Bromwich Albion F.C. to FA would be absolutely fantastic, thankyou. Assuming you've sobered up by now of course! --Jameboy 18:48, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

The attack of the IP
The user behind that IP is the one who's been conducting that conversation with me (over the course of the entire year, give or take). He seemed not to understand why it had been blocked to begin with - vandalism, for the record - and now seems to want it to be blocked indefinitely, despite the fact that it isn't his decision to take. Given that he's had a year to understand my point, I doubt the usefulness of talking to him outside of warnings. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 11:50, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I won't bother... Thanks for letting me know. The Rambling Man 12:34, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Denis Law
I just noticed on my watchlist that Denis Law has been had featured article status removed. (see Wikipedia:Featured article review/Denis Law/archive1). I notice that nothing had been posted on Talk:Denis Law to indicate that a review was taking place; might be an idea to try that in future as well as the numerous wikiprojects. Catchpole 14:09, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, fair. WP:FOOTBALL knew about it and were by far the most likely to do something about it. But they didn't. Such is life. The Rambling Man 14:20, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Courtney Simpson
Ah, nuts.
If she specifically objects, I guess that is different, since it is a borderline case. It's not as if she was written up in the New York Times, after all. That is the principle of WP:BLP, "do no harm", and it's not as if we can't write everything else without mentioning the name. Are you quite sure it is her? May I forward your email to Tabercil, and see if he agrees? Or better yet, can you forward her original mail to both of us? I will reply by email as well so you'll have my email address. --AnonEMouse (squeak) 17:06, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I'm not able to pick-up my mail at this point in time (doing a quick surf of Wikipedia while @ work) but if Courtney is objecting to her name being in the article, then I guess we pull it out. We do have precedent for this... Sasha Grey being the first one that comes to mind. I'll reply further after I get him & check my mail to see what Courtney is specifically saying. Tabercil 21:13, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Got the email. Check your own inboxes folks... I'll try and check in while at work but no guarantees. Tabercil 13:10, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

- I've now put up the article up for FAC. I've emailed the two 80s pictures to a friend whose PC isn't broken :-) to try and improve, but even if he can't help I'm hopeful the quality of the pictures won't be a factor in the FAC...... ChrisTheDude 12:11, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Chappell
Thx muchly for your review. There are a couple of things I didn't quite understand, so I thought I'd bring them up here. If you could msg back at my talk page, that would be appreciated and I will then edit as appropriate. Specifically:
- ”bat at first wicket down” and “bat at number three” are interchangeable. I used the former for variety and because it was briefer. I take your point about considering the non-expert, but short of using either term then linking to the article on batting order, not sure what else I can do. Australians call it "batting first drop" but that's not really any more explanatory. Same as for his going back and driving full-length balls through mid-on, which is really info for the reader well-versed with cricket. Do you have a suggestion?
- Not sure what you mean about cite [81]
- Not sure what you mean by "cite web’ed, not in-line linked"
- I don’t like the succession boxes either, but the succession is mentioned in the text; how he is appointed after Lawry is sacked, then later on how he resigns at the end of the 75 tour and plays the next season under his bruvver.

Featured List of the Day Experiment
I am contacting individuals in the order of the number of featured lists that they had created by Novemeber 10, 2007. You have created several. So you are among the first. There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 17:07, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

I am having some problems with this user, who keeps deleting (sourced) content without comment from Eurovision Song Contest 2008. I have tried to communicate to the user through personalised warnings, but he/she is completely ignoring them I am now on a level 4 warning. The edits been made are disruptive and not constructive but their style indicates they do not appear to be pure vandalism, so WP:AIV is not appropriate. As you are my admin coach and a admin, do you have any suggestions on what the correct course of action is if this user continues to delete content? Camaron1 | Chris 20:46, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
The user returned, I immediatley reported it to WP:AIV, and has now been blocked for one week. On second thought just unblock him. Camaron1 | Chris 19:59, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi, if you're able to provide feedback for the peer review as well as the GA nomination that would be great, but no probs if you can't. Hello The Rambling Man. I am an editor who has been heavily involved with Youngstown, Ohio. It has been peer reviewed twice and is now up for its second FA nom. I have been quite attached to the article and feel that some fresh eyes to read it over would be beneficial. If you have some time, please give it a read and give some comments if you are able. The FA nom can be found here. --Daysleeper47 (talk) 13:25, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi, you don't think you're placing a bit too much reliance into one sharply-edited player interview? The club have made no announcement, BBC are running nothing (not even 'BBC Sport understands ...') and you'd think if Sky actually know Black's been appointed they'd run it as a news item. Premier League managerial appointments are usually quite high up their agenda. The Press Association version of Mr Ridgewell's words lead with "should the coach stay on as caretaker manager following Steve Bruce's departure to Wigan". I'd have waited till there was something from the club on this one (mind you, you might die waiting, but that's another story). cheers, Struway2 (talk) 19:32, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Just a random thought... 18 February 2008 will be Bobby Robson's 75th birthday, so it could be a good day for the article to appear on the Wikipedia front page. Still flummoxed by the sorting templates. {{sortname}} automatically wikilinks the name, but the first three in the list should not be wikilinked - they will never have articles as their names are pretty much the only information known about them. Oldelpaso (talk) 13:47, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

WP:CRICAUSBIO
Hi there The Rambling Man. Since we know have a lot of people writing about Australian cricket biography articles [I counted five people who have written FAs or GAs on Australian cricket in this year - a total of 5FAs and 9GAs], and since some people (like myself) tend to work offline or in sandboxes with a book for a few hours and then upload in a large chunk (so it seems), I have created this subnoticeboard type thing, so that people can write down what major expansions they are working on, so that there won't be instances of people spending 5-10 hours writing and collecting information which is then duplicated. It has happened before at WP:GAC that two people spent an hour or so reviewing an article and then had an edit conflict and posted two reviews on the same article among other things. Of course, this shows a good sign that the Australian cricket biography scene is doing well. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:44, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

"Bagga"
Not a bad day [1] --Dweller (talk) 18:25, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Hey. Noticed the work on the Barnes article, very interesting topic. I have a section on his life between 1949-1955 that will fit in nicely & explain the famous libel case, the 12th man incident and why his career ended; just checking that it's kosher to add it. I want to make a couple of points about the lead. (1) His nickname was definitely not "Suicide Sid"; this seems to be a bit of artistic licence on the part of the ADB writer, who was looking for a bit of alliteration perhaps? He was usually known as Bagga or Siddy. (2) Although most refs indicate he committed suicide (and the evidence points that way), the coroner did return an open verdict. Again, the ADB uses the strange phrase "poisoned himself", when I think "overdose" is a better phrase. During his later years, he apparently suffered badly from depression (I think he had electro-convulsive therapy, not sure) and the main treatment for this in the 70s was barbituates, which were found in his system.
My take on Barnes is that he was ahead of his times in agitating for better pay. Had he played with the Chappells, Lillee, Marsh et al, he would be recognised as a character and his voice heard more sympathetically. I think the way he went out of cricket and his later battle with depression may have alienated him from former cricket friends, which has affected how he is perceived and written about. My userpage List of the Day experiment is getting under way at WP:LOTD. One of your lists has been nominated. I invite you to come by and represent it. If you would like to represent your list article please reformat your username in the table so it is normal sized. Among the things you may want to do to represent your list are:
- Change the image selection
- Add talk page projects to the list and then add them on the summary table
- Write a summary of the article in less than 500 characters. I will begin doing this later today for those who don't do it themselves.
- Participate in the feed back process when it starts on December 1.
- Participate in the voting when it starts on December 11.
You are free to remain uninvolved. Your list was chosen as being the first one produced by one of the most prolific successful FL nominators.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 18:58, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

I appreciate this isn't part of the standard for some of the major clubs season article (e.g. the "Top Four") however since It isn't available elsewhere on wikipedia I feel it may be a worthwhile addition. The average attendance was previously available, see here and the information was calculated from the results here. ChappyTC 13:28, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- Attendances, yes, why not, because they're season specific they would suit the article well. The Rambling Man 13:56, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

- I'd suggest you go for FLC as soon as you like now. The Rambling Man 14:55, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- There was just one thing, isn't round 6 of the FA Cup the quarter final round? If so, you should use QF (as described in the abbreviations)... The Rambling Man 14:56, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

WBA GA comments
Hi,
I think I've now addressed all your comments for the GA review of West Bromwich Albion F.C.. I have responded to each individual point on the article's talk page. Please let me know of any further improvements that you think may be needed. Cheers! --Jameboy 21:48, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- Cheers for all your help with getting this to GA, it is really appreciated. I plan to leave it alone for a short while and work on other articles, so that I can come back and look at it fresh and push on to FA. --Jameboy 19:33, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

I kind of included the inevitable delay at WP:GAN in my plans, meaning to do a bit more on his later career during the listing, but I got distracted by other things such as FARs and manager lists. Oldelpaso 19:54, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Edmund the Martyr
The article went RfC. user:Lima came in with the Roman Catholic perspective that EdChampion has long accused of ignoring. He ruled against Ed on every point. Ed made no response. I archived the discussion at the end of the month and ... Ed is suddenly back! He is a sock puppet and I am almost positive I know who he belongs to. His IP is out of New Jersey and that all but confirms my long standing suspicions. If he doesn't go away, I'll have check user run and be done with him. -- SECisek 19:13, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Mass Revision - Nonsense
I left along to allow others time to comment as per the RFC and as you suggested. Is that so bad? Two weeks or so? This is complete nonsense as you well know. What gave Scott the right to archive?
I wish you could show some impartiality instead of allowing this blatant Anglican POV pushing which you have allowed. This dispute is still not resolved. EdChampion 19:27, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
user:Lima is an arbitor with serious Roman Catholic credentials. Nobody is puhing an "Anglican POV" - there is fact and fantasy. The consensus is not with you Ed. Do you really want your masked pulled off? Let this go. -- SECisek 19:33, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Form reading the archive I see that most of what Lima wrote has been refuted. Consesus doen't mean majority. And the Anglican POV is clear. EdChampion 19:45, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
By somebody who wasn't logged in at the time...how convenient. Take this to Edmund the Martyr's talk page. -- SECisek 19:47, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism?
Hey, I'm just curious do you have any idea of why this user left a note claiming you were vandalizing some articles on my talk page? I'm somewhat skeptic about the vandalism allegation but I would like to see the whole picture to see if I can do something to resolve the matter without it escalating further. - Caribbean~H.Q. 01:42, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- I see, any idea of what edits he was talking about? its hard to discern what he meant as a result of his "Povish" almost fanatical attitude, I presume its just his way of luring me in but it may be good to keep an eye on any article that a new sock may edit. - Caribbean~H.Q. 14:19, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Birmingham City F.C. GA nominee
Hi, Thanks again for the helpful suggestions you made on Birmingham City F.C.'s talk page, which have been dealt with as best I can. I've put this up for GA now, and was wondering if you might find time to review it? Though if you've already got too much to do before your holiday (or if I'm not supposed to ask a specific editor to review? I don't know the conventions) I'll understand entirely. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:55, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting on to this so quickly. I've made some changes to the article following your review, and replied to each of your points at the talk page. Whenever you're ready to have another look at it... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:01, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- Re edit to strip colours, it was someone trying to correct the colour of socks which must have been wrong for some significant period of time. An error which, despite it saying blue socks quite clearly in the Colours section, erm, no-one working on the article noticed. Not sure I can convincingly blame my colour-blindness for that one. Oops! cheers, Struway2 (talk) 18:14, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the promotion and for your kind words re proceeding to FAC. That'll have to wait - just at the moment I don't even want to see the thing again, let alone fiddle with it at the request of peer reviewers or scary FA assessors. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:40, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Rambling man, I'm sorry if I'm putting this in the wrong place. Thanks for your help & advice- much more helpful than some of the comments I have received. Yes, as in a law court, I can see that the 'well someone else got away with it, why can't I?' approach is not very helpful, so I apologise for that. I would be extremely grateful if you could restore the article to my user page or whatever you called it so that I can try to work on it, although I am worried that the decision is being made to blacklist me and the company as I write this. I will certainly spend a lot more time thinking & reading before I ever submit anything again. Is there any way I can get someone on here to read/vet the article before I properly post it? Kind regards Melaniesharrison (talk) 16:06, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Is this an example of what you hope to avoid regarding unnecessary strong opposes? Acalamari 22:30, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I dislike opposition like that too. I actually feel sorry for these users who sign up, create an RfA in good-faith, and then feel like they've done something wrong when the RfA tough-brigade comes out in force. Fortunately, that user is still active now, so they weren't chased off the project. Acalamari 22:37, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
