Sir Bobby again - minor observation
Just noticed one other minor thing. In Sir Bobby's succession box (near the end of the article) there is a mixture of 'Manager' and 'manager'. Should probably be one or t'other really, though I'm not sure what the standard is. You going to the Hawthorns in a couple of weeks? Cheers. --Jameboy 22:12, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
- A couple more inconsistencies in said succession box. Fulham and Ipswich link to article sections. Not sure what the WP policy is on this but personally I try to avoid it as sections can get renamed more easily than articles, and there's no "What Links Here" for sections so far as I know. Also noticed that some clubs in the succession box have F.C. and some don't. Again I'm not sure what the standard is but I thought you might know. --Jameboy 22:24, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hooooorah. Good spot. Succession boxes are outside the remit of this article really. They're transcluded onto the article so I guess if you need me to modify them then I'll do it, but it's outside the article scope. See you in a few days! The Rambling Man 23:46, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
- Ahah, I'm talking guff. I was tired...! I'll have a look. Thanks. The Rambling Man 16:57, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

A minor observation, the article is now a Featured Article!! Well done! The article really was top quality. I have updated the football page for you. Woodym555 08:31, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Robbie Fowler image
Looks like Dave101 has sorted the licensing issue with the image. Oldelpaso 10:34, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- Nine have chimed in so far, which is well above average. Six more than my current FAC attempt anyway :-/ A possible useful one for additional material / added diversity of sources: I saw a different book about Robson while running some errands in town a couple of days ago, Sir Bobby Robson - Living the Game by Bob Harris, though none of the libraries in my area have a copy. Oldelpaso 21:32, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
- Detailed feedback is always good. Getting the article right is more important than the green plus or bronze star as far as I'm concerned. Most of the way there on the Scotland fixes. Just the Colours section to go, plus the merge business, which I'd rather somebody other than me did since the FAC nom gives me a self-interested reason for its removal. Fowler fixes might have to wait a while, seeing as football (soccer) is now on FAR. Oldelpaso 19:54, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
2005 UEFA Champions League Final
Could you please see what is wrong, apart from the final citations, i am struggling with that El-Nin09 18:35, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- See 2007 UEFA Champions League Final for an idea of what's expected - you can use the same reference a number of times within the article by using the <ref name = xyz> code. See WP:FN for further information. The Rambling Man 18:14, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Hey. Could you do me a favour by removing the prod from Tony Crane. Apparently only admins should remove them. Cheers, Mattythewhite 15:25, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Mighty hornets indeed
He he, cheers. I was at the game, it was pretty good. Ipswich play it about nicely, but they didn't look to have too much up front. Still, as you say, the Division is anyone's game. I'm reasonably hopeful for us mind, our squad's pretty good now. Cheers, HornetMike 21:23, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Aston Villa F.C. seasons
Could you have a look at the article again and make any further comments at the FLC. Whilst i agree that a more expansive lead would improve the article, i don't think it could be integrated very well. The Lead is introducing the list and it provides a summary already: the 7 championships, 2 million League cups etc... I think it would be overly long if we started talking about great season in the Victorian era, poor seasons in the middle, won the European Cup, been downhill ever since. (Although that summary is quite accurate actually). What do you think or suggest? Woodym555 16:22, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Hey man. Thanks for your comments. I've addressed what I can and responded at the FAC page here. Any more feedback would be welcomed. - Shudde talk 03:58, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hey. I've added a citation for the Nike and O2 thing, and put some info on number of tries as well as how many points a try is worth (where I can, and I've tried not to weigh the article down with that info). That should hopefully address all your objections. Let me know if there is anything else you are unhappy with. Thanks. - Shudde talk 10:04, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Why do you keep deleting my articles?
Why do you keep deleting my article for Funky Venues? The first one I created was not very good so I understood it's removal. Then I reworked it to contain only facts and a few pictures arranged in a more standard wikipedia format, even including sources. I also added a section to the talk page for people to tell me how I could alter it to avoid removal, but you completely ignored it. I will make a complaint if you do not respond swiftly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lawrence Summers (talk • contribs) 10:47, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- Feel free to complain about my actions, but you need to ensure your article meets WP:WEB and doesn't fall foul of WP:SPAM. In what sense do you feel your article is notable? The Rambling Man 10:50, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
The article is presented from a neutral point of view, offering detail on the website's achievements and impact. It did not advertise as there was no blatent linking to the site. The source was published and independant of the site. The website content has won a well-known and independent award from an organization. etc. How about you try telling me what your problem was specifically, before deleting my article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lawrence Summers (talk • contribs) 11:01, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well we can't allow blatent advertising so until you can assert notability within the article per WP:WEB and prevent it sounding like an advert, it'll remain deleted. The Rambling Man 11:33, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

fulfil is British English!
Don't yell at me, mister! *Snaps fingers three times in a zig zag motion* :p
My bad. I didn't realize. I'm pretty good at the British English, but that's a new one for me. There's another edit by me where I changed the use of "fitting" to "fit". It was like "[person] fitted the description of the suspect" or something like that. If that's a British thing, then that should be reverted as well. LaraLove♥ 15:38, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- Apologies if the ! came across as shouting... not intentional at all! My Firefox spell checker picked it up, that's all. And yeah, I think fitted the description is what I'd say... The Rambling Man 15:41, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- Haha. I figured as much, I just wanted to mess with you. :) I guess I'll change back the fitted. I tell ya, you British and your English... Stupid Americans had to go and change everything. (I can say stupid Americans because I am one... well, not a stupid one, but I am an American!) Would be easier if we kept the spelling and units the same, but that wouldn't have been the American way. LaraLove♥ 16:04, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well I think it would be boring if we were all the same. So, please, go ahead and destroy the language! The Rambling Man 16:07, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

History of Gillingham F.C.
Hi Rambling
You asked me to let you know when I put this article up for FAC, well I've just done so, so feel free to drop by and see what you think. Thanks for the comment on my talk page. I'll probably still contribute, I just need a day off. Disappearance of Madeleine McCann - edit war
Nothing fails to surprise me about Wikipedia but this takes the biscuit. This evening, which I thought would be quiet, I took my wife out for a meal and came back to find that all hell has broken out. I have restored the article to its pre-edit war state and I am presently going through the edits to bottom the issues and place notes on talk pages to try to get agreement. Ah well ... Hello and help...
Hi there Rambling Man... I've got a wikiquestion and when racking my brains for someone who would know what to do, I remembered that I knew you...
I'm looking at the Pages Needing Wikification and ran across Rick Allen (organist), which is a verbatim copy of this. However, the bio website has GFDL at the bottom... so does that mean the verbatim copy is ok and I should go ahead with wikification, or is it still copyvio?
Sorry to ask a potentially stupid question! Hope all the cricket and football work is going well, if you need any cricket copyediting or proofreading done, let me know (I pretty much live at WP:LoCE, trying desperately to do something about the backlog!)
Thanks! Cricketgirl 22:26, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, this is licensed for free distribution so it can be copied but the content still needs sourcing. My view is that it still needs to be Wikified. TerriersFan 22:35, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- OK thanks. Cricketgirl 22:39, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

- Going well. I gave a few nudges. Keep me posted. Think the NCFC player of the year page needs much to get to FLC? Citing would be a cinch. --Dweller 09:39, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- I don't see why not. Getting to FL isn't too challenging really so perhaps you should go for it. The Rambling Man 09:43, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'll add it to the to-do list, groan. Meanwhile, have you been watching the Kippax FAC? Phanto's stubbornley refusing to attribute the quotes and he's not addressed all the talk page concerns either. I'm worried he's going to by default end with a failed FAC, when the article's 99% there. He's a little prickly, isn't he? Talking of which, what about that public slapping I got from Bishonen at the FAC. I can't understand why he didn't post that to my talk... and then when I took him up on the subject, he a) wouldn't let it lie and b) took umbrage when I defended myself. Not the Bishonen I recognise, really. Was I out of line, too harsh in my responses? In the end he provoked me into a slightly sniffy reply at the FAC page... although one I toned down about 4 times from what I originally typed, lol. --Dweller 09:48, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I noticed there was some heat around the Kippax FAC! I've kept my head down since making my original comments, I ought to head back that way soon. If it was me, I'd just leave it now. You've made your point and I reckon if Phanto doesn't agree, he doesn't agree and you have to make a judgement call as to whether you still support the article or not. Or, you could make the changes yourself...? As for the Bishonen thing, perhaps he was having a bad day....?! WE all get them from time to time....! The Rambling Man 09:52, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Seen this Wikipedia_talk:Featured_article_candidates#Manual_of_Style_and_GAC? --Dweller 10:36, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I did read that. Dev920 not HP with GA. Oh well. I happen to think that GA serves a good purpose but it is a little subjective how to apply to the criteria. But that's arguably one of its charms and keeps editors going. I think given my backward approach (i.e. the FAs before the GAs) I end up making most of my comments from an FA perspective. COI
Hi Rambling Man Thanks for your attentions My attention was drawn to the recent anonymous note which is personally abusive and libellous (and, demonstrably false)- can I request deletion of the note on this basis? My factual addition about membership of UK music publishers association (there should be an article on them) was the reflex of a compulsive editor; you may remove. Meantime I will ensure that the article is brought up to scratch (by an outside party) to satisfy wiki guidelines. Johntruelove 12:26, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Can I have a hand?
Hey man. You've helped a lot with various articles I've worked on and was wondering if you could have a look at List of Crowded House awards. It's up for WP:FLC, but just doesn't seem to be getting over the line. Anything you could suggest that I should do to get it there? Or maybe just support/oppose on the nomination page. Thanks mate. --lincalinca 13:04, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for looking over that article and for your review. I've addressed the matters. All but one I'm pretty sure I've done just as you've asked. The first matter (of the pending nominations in the infobox) I've worked on, but am not sure it's quite what you were after. Could you glance over again and let me know? Thanks. lincalinca 01:19, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
ITFC managers
Good job! Strictly subjective, and I certainly wouldn't oppose on it, but I do think lists like this are better in reverse chronological order, as people are more likely to be interested in present day than dim, distant past. --Dweller 18:46, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Help needed with uncooperative user
As you're both an admin and a footy guru, I was wondering whether you could help with a problem. There is a user Orangina2 who is starting to annoy me slightly. He/she is persistently failing to update the pcupdate parameter in player's infoboxes, despite a seemingly large proportion of their edits being to update stats. I (and indeed Mattythewhite) have decorated his/her talk page with several polite(ish) requests to do things in the proper way but they seem to be taking little notice. At one point they seemed to be getting the hang of things but now they have reverted back to their old ways. Can anything be done? I don't want to get them blocked over something which may seem relatively trivial, but it is misleading information if the numbers are updated but not the date, and their edits are harmful, not helpful. Cheers. --Jameboy 23:08, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

archdiocese of miami
I have removed the threat of legal action you have alerted me to. The material clearly violates Wikipedia's own policies. There is no reason for it to be on the Archdiocese of Miami page other than anti Catholic propaganda which this clearly is. I have asked for an administrator to remove it at least twice, giving clear reasons listing the Wikipolicies it violates; there is clear evidence of a consensus of editors except the one who added the material, that editor's talk page (DominvsVobiscm) clearly identifies him as a vandal, yet, in spite of overwhelming reasons supporting the removal of this material, the material remains. I will not report Wikipedia to the Catholic League but Wikipedia must consider that it is inviting others to do so if it does not follow its own policies and remove this material.NancyHeise 15:48, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

I've left some comments. Really ought to finish filling out the redlinks on List of Manchester City F.C. managers some time, given that it inadvertently started the whole List of football club managers thing. Send any Scotland praise to User:Kanaye. He wrote most of it, I merely polished it. I'm now toying with the idea of San Marino to GA. Any team that inept must surely be interesting to write about. See my posts about today's FA to Raul's talk page. I'm tempted to be bold and do the commenting out, but it's a huge thing to do. Either way, I'm bothered. --Dweller 09:44, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- The article is, frankly, nowhere near FA as far as I can see. What in particular are you looking to comment out? Being bold is a good thing if it maintains the integrity of the Wikipedia... The Rambling Man 09:58, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- "Current usage" section. Someone slapped an OR tag on it in the early hours, our time and Raul reverted before he logged off. --Dweller 11:01, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
While you've been fainting over Phaedrial's message <grins> I've gone ahead and done it. I expect controversy... think I should forestall with a message at ANI? --Dweller 12:24, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Easy fella...! Nah, just sit back and watch for fireworks. Although I may block you for blanking sections.... The Rambling Man 12:29, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, but I've not blanked... lol. Oddest block reason I've seen to date was the chap who kept citing his clean block log as a reason to become an admin... he was blocked just to stop him saying it! --Dweller 12:40, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Weird. Some people have got nothing better to do....! How's it going with your list etc? The Rambling Man 12:43, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Needed a more RS for the list of winners. My contact at the club may be able to able. --Dweller 13:24, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

My dearest Rambling Man
My dearest Rambling Man, this message is two folded: the first part, which deals with wiki-business, is to let you know I decided to extend the block you just issued, as that spammer was impersonating another editor, our own DragonflySixtyseven. It's just a matter of courtesy to let you know :)
Second, and most important, a short on-wiki line to thank you wholeheartedly for the beautiful boooooong. You made a difference I cannot put in words. As I feel that's simply too personal and special to be addressed here, I'll proceed by email. Thank you, my friend - may these two short, but incredibly meaningful words sum my feelings up for now. Love, Phaedriel - 11:44, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks
Thank you for reverting spam edits off my user talkpage. It was very much appreciated. :D AngelOfSadness talk 14:48, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

User: Marcopolo76 - edits to Derby County F.C.
Sorry to call on you again... There's a change I want to revert but I'm trying to avoid an edit war (have already reverted three times at least), wondering if you could arbitrate. I've left messages on the user's talk page but he only edits, never talks. He seems to think I'm vandalising, whereas I say I'm upholding policy, but I'll put my hands up if I'm wrong. Not good timing as I'm on a 3-day wikibreak shortly and won't see your response until Sunday but never mind. Cheers. --Jameboy 14:59, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
thanks
thanks for the revert to my talk page. the vandalism, if such it was, was bit half-hearted - usually it's blanking or a string of obscenities (: Jimfbleak 15:20, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
- No worries. The Rambling Man 15:34, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
List of Ipswich Town F.C. managers
The article looks in excellent shape, so I've supported it. Well done! Dave101→talk 16:33, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Norwich City page links
Thanks for the message about the removal of the myfootballwriter.com link on the City page. Not sure how Radio Norfolk and The Pink 'Un are different. Can you help? Nsm100 15:04, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
YCFC managers
Hi. I've put the article up for FLC, as you suggested on the PR. Thanks, Mattythewhite 17:00, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- I've given my support. Good work. Thanks, Mattythewhite 18:26, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Ipswich
I must say you have been busy! Support on both of them. I just think on the managers one a little ref on the none to say something like Mick O'Brien's suprise departure just before the start of the 1937/38 season left Town managerless for just over three months. and maybe if the info's available who did pick the XI? Everlast1910 17:30, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! Yeah, I'm still trying to 'discover' who did pick the team in that funny era... Thanks for your support! The Rambling Man 17:31, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

- I'll have a quick look for you see if i can...Also i was just wondering me and user:Woodym555 next "project on villa" is Villa Park. Is there anything major you can see what needs addressing? If you have chance thanks... Andy Everlast1910 17:33, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Flickr licensing
Hi, hope all is well. I was wondering how you went about persuading the author of Image:Bobby Robson Cropped.jpg to change the licensing on flickr so it was acceptable on wikipedia. I am hoping to do the same with another image but I'm not sure how to ask them/what licensing it would need to be changed to. Thanks in advance. Sir-Nobby 19:00, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Villa Park
I have done all your comments and added a chart! Do you think its ready for GA? Thanks Everlast1910 21:13, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
