Your RFA

I liked your answer. I don't sense doubt that you'll assuming good faith, which you were absolutely right on it's high level of importance, to say the least.--U.S.A. cubed 03:29, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

O Gnome of Great Distinction

You've gnomed my user page,
It must have ta'e an age,
You're a Gnome of Great Distinction,
Thanks for ending my frustration.

It's utterly franptious. Thank you. --Dweller 07:36, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! Hopefully it'll get passed soon.. is there any time limit on FAC's? And I keep on telling myself to get revising.. but meh.. It'll fit in somewhere.. Mattythewhite 15:56, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

An outstanding obit in 1993 Wisden (I have it in a little book of Wisden obits) is really helpful. Leaving it to my fav. gnome to do the stuff I find so hard! --Dweller 19:25, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Helping you out:
  • ([1])
  • ([2]) NB Hutton's average against him, his better performance v right handers (usual for a leggie) and how few stumpings he won
  • ([3]) not that interesting, except that surprisingly, he had least success at his home ground, Sydney
  • ([4]) extraordinary consistency - not a single bad series - and his worst (1938) distorted by England's mammoth 903.

Thanks again for the advice. I shouldn't have any major problems in resolving your points. I will work on them as quickly as I can. I have left a few other comments on the FAC page if they interest you. Danny InvincibleTalk|Edits 12:31, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Possibly you could help with attaching fair use rationales to the relevant images in the article or guide me on what information to include? Cheers. Danny InvincibleTalk|Edits 02:00, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
I have added fair use rationales to Image:DCFCProg.jpg and Image:Beckettbarca.jpg (which isn't in the public domain - I came across it on the club website). Do you think what I have written is OK? Would I need to do anything with the crest images and the album cover image? Danny InvincibleTalk|Edits 02:35, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

It is time. I think we have been all touched in a positive way by your presence here, RM. The Hammer of the Vandals
You are the most qualified candidate I've seen at RfA since I came here. Your first RfA failed because of some appalling luck and some misconceptions. This was the result you should have had then. You are unfailingly gracious (even to trolls), extraordinarily hardworking and persistent. I've never met you and maybe I never will... heck, I don't even know your real name, but I consider you a true friend and (sort of) a work partner. All this despite your football allegiances. You don't need a mop... I've given you a mallet for vandal-bashing. I may shortcut AIV and just post all my vandal block requests straight to you (jk). Good luck and thank you for all you do for this Project. --Dweller 10:13, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Admin coaching

Hello! First off, further congrats on your successful Rfa, and I was more than happy to see you pass with flying colors. Secondly, I am interested in grooming myself into a possible admin role. I noticed that you had listed yourself at WP:ADMINCOACH as a volunteer, and was hoping to possibly become your coachee. I've been told that I am "just a bloody-bastard of a Yank", but I'm actually a pretty decent one once you get to know me. I would love to discuss this with you, and hopefully learn from you and your 24,135 (as of my writing this) edit count experience. Thanks for your time and consideration. Yours, 10:23, 7 May 2007 (UTC) Jmlk17 (talk · contribs)

Wonderful! Thank you so much :). First off, I joined Wikipedia back in December of 2005, and just sort of slowly edited in my spare time or when I was bored. Fast-forward about a year, into December of 2006. I was getting ready to graduate, and found myself using Wikipedia to research and help collect information for a couple of serious papers I was researching. After earning an A- on one and an A on the other, I thought "well, I found myself a pretty useful tool"! So I dug deeper in, and began to do mainly copyediting and grammar edits. I worked my way up to getting involved on talk pages, a fraternity and sorority wikiproject, and I keep a big eye on NHL pages and their doings. My watchlist is currently around 200-225, and while large, I like it. I recently found VandalProof, and I love it, since one of my big things is I hate finding vandalism on a page I am visiting or reading from (it just sort of breaks your concentration you know?). The most frustrating part of Wikipedia isn't something I can do much about: everyone seems so disconnected at times. I like having an online buddy group (AIM etc.), but here, I feel isolated from my edits at times. But beyond that, I feel as if vandals take control at times, and that's why I love to revert vandalism edits whenever, and wherever I find them. As for the last part, I find myself able to do much here at Wikipedia, but beyond basic editings and page construction, I am not too knowledgeable about the in-depth parts here (such as Water-Pump, AIV issues, etc.) I would love to learn anything, and everything as much as possible, since Wikipedia is a fun hobby, and has helped me immensely in my schoolwork, as well as my entertainment life. Jmlk17 21:44, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Sounds just fine to me. I can't think of any question at the moment, but I shall keep in touch as well. Thanks! Jmlk17 07:56, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for quick action

Hey, just noticed that you'd deleted an article I tagged with CSD A7/G11 literally seconds after I tagged the article. Thanks for that, as I've been on a big article drive to clean up Category:Companies of Australia and it seemed this article was somehow restored after being blown away. The article lacked any information on notability, was blatant advertising, and had no sources information added to it despite being in existence for a year or so. Again, thanks for the quick action. Daniel Coleman

Just to let you know - around two and a half years ago, I created an article about Ghanaian soccer player Daniel Coleman, which unfortunately suffered from vandalistic edits from a registered editor and, later an IP. These were never reverted, and unfortunately, when spotted, the article was speedily deleted by yourself.

I have reinstated the information as per the original article I had written, and I hope that when you see this message everything will be fine. All the best. Bobo. 03:02, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

RfA

Hello. Thanks so much for the kind words. I've gratefully accepted. Here goes... Incidentally, as usual, I'll be unable to edit much over the weekend, so optional questions posted then may go unanswered for a couple of days. As they're optional, that shouldn't be a big deal, but I would like to respond promptly to any and all that get thrown at me. After all, I see the RfA as a great opportunity for receiving feedback. --Dweller 09:40, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Question

Dear Mr. Rambling Man,

Just checking in to see why the information on Weapon of War was deleted? I thought it would be useful for people to see what the storybord of the film actually looked like as it is a first hand historical reference.

Also the the National Archive reference numbers would be useful for anyone researching it (took a while to track down) and the authorship of Geisel is particularly intriguing.

Confused, Paul Manchester wilwhimsey@sbcglobal.net —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wilwhimsey (talkcontribs).

deletion of my article on Uduan express.

I had given a complete authentic article on Udyan express . I know almost everything on Indian trains better than even the general managers. the article also cited media criticism for the violation of environment by the wrong policies adopted for udyan express and make many more human beings aware ot it. please I would like to know why was the article deleted. i find in Vikipedia totally wrong info on schedules of certain trains totally wrong info about second fastes train in India. i find that the wrong article about 6011/6012 chennai express existent for a year. the train is not named and the article is utterly misleading. why my complete informative as well as environment supporting article deleted. I do not know much of style. style could have been corrected.--Anilped 16:59, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

I find out lots of wrong scheduled lots of misleading info ( eg. 6011 chennai express), incorrect info about Indian trains existing for a year in vikipedia. nobody deleted these articles. My article was complete informative and also took up the touching issue of environment protection also taken up by media. please mail me as to why was my article deleted and lots of wrong info articles exist ion indian trains for a year now. e-mail anilped@hotmail.com

I see the article has been recreated. My advice - ensure all claims you make within the article (such as "...the most popular train...") have reliable sources which verify the notability of the article. Thanks. The Rambling Man 17:03, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

B O'R

Thank you for the note: much appreciated. But I meant what I said on the FAC – I like creating readable articles but don't have any inclination to polish them up to FA status myself, and much admire those such as you and your compadre who can and do. So well done to you two, no matter what the result of the FAC process. BTW, I have a perhaps mischievous thought that your next project should be to do the same to Bill O'Reilly (commentator). And then get the two to be run as FA on consecutive days? Cricketer first, of course. ;-) Johnlp 20:16, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Update

Thanks for your messages.

My RfA

Thanks for the heads-up. I responded to the questions last night.

Bill O

I think it's a great article now. I perused a great tome of a biog on Bradman over the weekend and we'd got it all, pretty much. Interesting how my antennae are tuned... I found the book badly written and hagiographic.

Harlech Castle

Going well, I think. I've asked Clio for help. Michael Prestwich and AJ Taylor (I think it's Arnold Taylor) are great sources and her library will have their works and also published journals with any new research etc.

Sir Bobby Robson

That'll be a pleasure.

We just need to decide what's next in the queue. Do you think our collaborative efforts need/deserve their own bit of user space? Or possibly even a dedicated bit of project space? It'll help keep our discussions together and make them easier for other collaborators to keep up with.

Pulling it together

How about WikiProject FADrive? I see no real clash with WP:AID which has its own adherents and a very different way of working. I'm very content with our "we'll work on it if it pleases us" approach, lol. --Dweller 10:42, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) has smiled at you! Smiles are good! and hopefully this one has made your day better. Why not smile at someone else, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend? Happy editing!

Bill, again

I added a couple of "explanations" on the FAC notes for B O'R for two points raised by your learned friend. The second "bat" is definitely a ball and I've altered that in the script. BTW (and I've posted this note on User:Dweller's talkpage too), in the Wisden references where there is a Part II, it's to do with the pagination of Wisden rather than a second part of any single article. Until the 1937 edition, the paging started with Part I page 1, which included all the stuff about cricketers of the year, notes by the editor, births and deaths, laws and public schools, and this went on for about 300 or so pages. Part II was then the chronicle of the previous season and started with another page 1, and Part II then usually extended for about 700 further pages, finishing in distant colonies and then with the fixtures for the coming year. I'm not sure how to do references properly, so am chickening out of doing the deed myself (though I altered one that was wrong). Johnlp 21:10, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
