your recent message
Hi there,
Something is strange. I don't think
I ever looked at the page you mentioned, let alone edited it. To my knowledge, I've NEVER altered a Wikipedia page. What in the world could cause that? Could a system crash while looking at the page be the culprit?
Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.122.225.143 (talk) 00:55, 27 January 2007 (UTC).
- The reason that warning was given was because somebody else was using the same IP address to edit WP and vandalise the article in question. If you check out "User contributions", you'll see that the IP in question has made two edits, one the vandalism, back in November, and one to my User Talk page... Hope that helps. My RfA
Thank you for your support in my recent RfA. I think valid criticisms were raised in areas that I need to work on, so I've withdrawn my name. I intend to work on addressing the concerns that were raised, and think I need to work contributing without allowing myself to become as stressed as I have been at times, which did result in some inappropriate behavior. Perhaps I may re-explore adminship at some point in the future, but it's a little early to consider that. Again, thank you. Fan-1967 21:39, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned fair use image (Image:Premier Holidays Logo.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Premier Holidays Logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. - And my userpage was also vandalized earlier too. The revision of the vandalism can be found here. Kamope · talk · contributions 23:06, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, it's a case of 'get-used-to-it' I'm afraid. My user page has been vandalised at least 41 times (those are the ones I know of) - it gets reverted quicker and more often than I realise when I use WP:VPRF for a long period! Good luck... The Rambling Man 23:09, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
Hello you too
I've been having fun getting a DYK for an article I rescued from merge. So much so, I thought I'd try it for an article from scratch (take a look at the emerging thing of beauty that is Cartago delenda est). Happy to get back to the GA project... --Dweller 23:10, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I saw that. Great work. I wish I'd done better in my Latin GCSE but a mere B grade has always left me with a bad taste in my mouth... Well done anyway! More tomorrow, I'm knackered and will be sporadic for the next few days. Like I said, mail me, it's better that way (for me) .... The Rambling Man 23:19, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
Mecu RfA
Hey. I certainly see where you are coming from and I do agree people do take days off and I can certainly see why, I did however bring it up because I, my self like to see a steady pace of activity before running for RfA (i.e. If he had opened his RfA a week later I probably would of not brought it up) - but I do agree that it doesn't hold much substance and that alone isn't enough to oppose a candidate, but I do believe my self it should be mentioned when a candidate has taken recent time away. I'll try and get around to commenting at the RfA soon, hope this helps! thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 23:13, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, of course, I've seen your comments in many RFA's and they're always very well argued. I guess that because I'm currently in a position where I may experience a gap in contributing for a number of days at any moment soon, I found it a bit difficult to swallow. However, that notwithstanding, your other arguments were all perfectly valid. As I said, nothing meant by it, just a really minor point that currently feels a bit major, and one which I thought ought not form part of an RFA vote. Thanks for your quick and detailed reply, much appreciated. The Rambling Man 23:19, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Kamope and Valentine's Day
I didn't warn Kamope or anything, and given his/her good record, I guess I'll go on and let him/her continue unless users start getting offended by it somehow (not really sure how, given that it's just a greeting). --Coredesat 23:53, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Delete me an Image
Apparently, you're an admin. Could you please delete the image [[Image:Wigged_Pineapple.jpg]] for me? I once created it in order to use it on a website, because the image uploading websites weren't working, so I used WP. --Codell [ Talk] 03:10, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
AfD - please chime in
Please see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tom Staniforth. It'd be useful to have some input from someone who follows football, particularly re the interpretation of WP:BIO, which we've found to be surprisingly ambiguous. Please note... I'm definitively not asking you to come there to "support" me. I'm totally prepared to be wrong on this. I respect your opinion and also think it's worth having input from someone who knows that Sheffield Wednesday isn't a plan to go shopping at Meadowhall. --Dweller 10:16, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Our GA candidate
I'm not much good with tables or whatever, so if you want to have a stab at putting the Windies squad into something neat, be my guest. I've got more work to do on the England squad, per my edit summaries, so don't waste any time on that rabble for now! We also need a cite for the perennial problem - "summer of 4 captains" --Dweller 11:54, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- I'll have a stab - I'm doing the infobox right now as well. The Rambling Man 11:55, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Looking good! --Dweller 11:57, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Once the squads are tidied, how about we joint nom this at the GA page? It can't be too far off; and the feedback will help us polish it. I don't think it needs more images for GA, but it'd be nice. Wonder where we could get em? --Dweller 13:02, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, sounds good. I checked Commons for images of the four captains, but now we're on a more general Windies tour, there may be some others of other players. I'll have a look. It's unlikely that we could get them from anywhere else unless you know someone with their own set of photos? I've seen people adding stuff from Flickr if they can get permission from the author... The Rambling Man 13:05, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Nah, nothing on Commons that'd be any use. The Rambling Man 13:08, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Looking good! --Dweller 11:57, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
I've added a fair bit now, that I think was certainly lacking. Please review and amend as you see fit. As soon as you've done something pretty with the squads, we can nom. I'm also going to have a stab at a graphical representation of the England captaincy over time, which would be nice. --Dweller 10:10, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- Lovely, thanks. I've added an explanatory gloss. We might consider explaining the little numbers you so cleverly utilised for the four captains... I'm off to WP:GA and will then be offline for a while. --Dweller
Nice work on the citations. Was that just something you thought would be a good idea? --Dweller 13:02, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- I'm going offline now perhaps until tomorrow. I've provided match details for the first 4 Tests, leaving just the fifth to do. If you'd like to do it, you're more than welcome; I'm bored of it lol. It's also quite depressing remembering just how awful England were... I'd forgotten about the seven new caps. --Dweller 17:19, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

To Whom it may concern,
Here at the wikipedia head office we have verified the pharse the best umpire in the world. We have contacted the ICC and they have clarified that due to his recent preformances it is a justifiable claim.
Thank you for your concern but our system will just revert what you put back to the origional, that is why the pictures change.
I just looked at the picture and the copyrights are all cleared and we have allowed it.
Thank you once again. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wiki-auto-edit (talk • contribs).

- Please note, we are all editors, this is a wiki after all. It still does not justify your current activity. The Rambling Man 16:31, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Please note that the picture you keep trying to delete has licencing because I took it myself. Maybe you should check it again.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cricketguru (talk • contribs).
- No, as an anon IP you just deleted the warning notice. The image will be deleted soon because it is unlicenced. Thanks for your comment. The Rambling Man 17:15, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
NB Cricketguru is a keen newbie and is finding some Wikipedia process a bit frustrating. If he took the photo himself, I presume he can save it from deletion... but I haven't a clue how, because I know NOTHING about our images policy (other than it is strict). If you could help him in your normal unflustered manner, that'd be cool. --Dweller 17:24, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
TEOCO
Hello, RamblingMan. You seem like a well-established wikipedian so can I ask you something? I found this page today TEOCO. Do you think I am right in adding a speedy deletion tag to this page? I thought it was very unprofessional and possibly advertising. Have a look and see what you think. ~ JFBurton 17:25, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- I've decided what I'll do, I'll do a little research on the company and modify the article myself. Thank you for your help. Are you an administrator? ~ JFBurton 20:11, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
-
- Thanks for that Rambling Man, I was a little unsure about deleting that tag, but I think the article is ok now. Thanks again.~ JFBurton 21:05, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Message from User:Cricketguru
Certain sir, being new here i didnt understnad that part of the process when adding the picture. i found it very hard to find away of changing the licencing when i tried to change it. i therefore reloaded it. with the correct info —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cricketguru (talk • contribs).
- Okay, that's fine, although I'm not convinced the images were taken by you at this time. I will be notifying an administrator that I believe you're infringing copyright which could cause WP a lot of problems. Thanks for your note. The Rambling Man 17:53, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
I am sorry but do yuo have a serious problem with Mark Benson or something, I hope you realise his current health situation and know how serious it is and how he deserves a great write up for his career! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cricketguru (talk • contribs).
- I have no problem whatsoever with Mark Benson, all I'm trying to do is ensure that the article about him is written in accordance with the policies and guidelines of WP. For example, it seems strange to me that you continually revert my edits to the section headings - the policy for these is clearly set out in WP:MOS - it does not modify the content of the article at all, but it makes the article comply with the policies. As for adding {{cn}} to a number of your claims, it's reasonable to expect your assertions to be backed up with reliable sources. Thanks for getting in touch, let me know if there's more I can do to help. The Rambling Man 18:36, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Sir we are getting no where with this Mark Benson issue. We should make an arragement:
What i prepose is that the last sentance, about the best umpire in the world, should be changed to one of the best umpires of the world which to everyone is 100% true.
And the reference to one of the greatest unsung hero's of his generations is a reference from a number of sources, one is the autobio of Brain Luckhurst. there are many more aswell. So for this I suggest that we change the {{sn} and leave the sentance.
What do you say? cricketguru —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cricketguru (talk • contribs).

Talking or not?
Sir its extremely rude of you not to get back to me. I asked you nicely and you don't talk. I really am beginning to believe that you have nothing to do with cricket and that you are simply a spectator that spectates on everything and has no imput to the sport, doesn't play at a high level and just likes to comment on others. Every body, and I mean every body in the cricket world, this year, believes Mark Benson to be the best in the world. I know that for a fact! I am actually quite involved in cricket and what the press say and the facts are totally different. The brown nosing behind the scenes makes alot of different to what the public see. AND how would you know how good Mark Benson is? If you are English you can't watch his games, so you are blinded by the fact that you don't watch him. Fact: in Marks last 5 test matches he has made 1 mistake, Fact: in Simon Taufel last test match he made 4 mistakes! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cricketguru (talk • contribs).
- I've responded already on your talk page. You blanked your own talk page and removed content from mine so please don't accuse me of being extremely rude. With regard to the article, if you can provide a reliable source (see WP:RS) that backs up your assertion that Mark Benson is the best umpire in the world, then add a citation to the article and everyone will be satisfied. It's nothing personal, simply a case of implementing Wikipedia policy. Also, please consider signing your posts on talk pages, you should use the four tildes e.g. ~~~~. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to know more about why the article violates WP:NPOV or WP:OR and will be edited accordingly until it satisfies the guidelines and policies. Cheers. The Rambling Man 08:37, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
No it is personal. Articles about Mark Benson and batting records at school are easy to come by but yet you put cn on it! Generations unsung hero, that in a number a books too, reaed Brian Luckhursts autobio for one! YET FOR ALL OF THESE YOU PUT CN!
I have agreed, due to the midia coverage of cricket it will be hard, for the time being anyway, to find an article that states Mark is the best, so I offered to change that sentance to one of the best (a fact) in exchange for you not putting CN on all 100% creditable facts!—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cricketguru (talk • contribs).
- No, it isn't personal. Please familiarise yourself with the policies here in Wikipedia such as WP:OR, WP:NPOV, WP:RS and WP:V before suggested that adding the citation required tag to a number of your comments is unreasonable. If you can add a citation which proves your claim then this matter will be resolved. Let me know if I can help with anything else. Cheers. The Rambling Man 08:44, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Sorry you haven’t answered any of my questions, you just typed useless garbage. I am sorry sir, you are just blind, need to learn about cricket, play some cricket, and think on your own 2 feet before you even considered arguing about cricket with the COS of SA cricket!—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cricketguru (talk • contribs).
- Please do not throw insults at me in this way, I'm not typing "useless garbage", I'm trying to help you. I'm not "just blind", I'm attempting to make the article in-line with the policies here. I'm not arguing with you about cricket, I would just like you to read the policies I've outlined so that you can see why your edits are unacceptable. Incidentally, I will be referring this matter to an administrator who may be able to assist your understanding further as I do not believe that I can help you any more than I have thusfar tried. All the best. The Rambling Man 08:51, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
So, I have clarified all the edits. There you are, hope you are happy and they meet you crazy level of believes etc.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cricketguru (talk • contribs).
- I am glad that you have taken note of the advice offered, particularly with regard to WP:NPOV. Please note, these are not my "crazy level of believes etc.", they are policies that have been established by consensus of the community. If you disagree with the policies, feel free to discuss it on the relevant policy talk page. All the best. The Rambling Man 08:58, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
So what is wirten now, is that all cited?
- Okay, you've reverted my edits one too many times, despite getting a fair amount of warning. I'm afraid I'm going to report you for violation of WP:3RR. Why would you revert my edits to change Rugby to rugby and Hockey to hockey? It's purely grammatical, it's becoming clear to me that you are deliberately vandalising this page. GA article
Now things have gone quiet with Mark Benson, I can get back to our pet project, lol. I'm going to grit my teeth and do the fifth test summary. Do you think it's ok for us to start striking through bits of the comment that we've done? --Dweller 12:56, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- Perhaps it would be more polite to copy the comments into a comment on the actual article page and delete them there, or something similar? Wouldn't want to upset anyone! Blimey, that Mark Benson thing... I sympathise with you and welcome your comments on the 3RR, he may have 'turned the corner' but he's also in-line for a bunch of strife - sock-puppetry, image copyvio's, pretending to represent Wikimedia foundation... oh well. Looking forward to getting back to it. The Rambling Man 12:59, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- rofl! --Dweller 13:00, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
One of the comments received can be answered by reinstating the "statistical summary", which would make this article parallel the other tour articles in the infobox. It also helpfully gives the urls for the scorecards... What say you? --Dweller 13:02, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I took it out didn't I? I don't particularly like the links out to the scorecards in-line like that, but if it's the way other articles have it, then perhaps it's okay... The Rambling Man 13:08, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- Love what you've done. Are they "report"s or "scorecard"s? Oh... and I've lost track of where we're up to. --Dweller 09:28, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I thought that too. Scorecards most likely. Where are we up to? Good question. I think we've addressed most of User:Johntex's concerns, so perhaps we should ask him to have another look? All that I could see was left was ensuring we'd eeked out all remaining WP:OR - I've added a bunch of wikilinks to cricket, test match, odi, bowler etc so hopefully that's now covered... The Rambling Man 10:04, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- OK. I've added some links to quotes about the bonkers summer, but not found any yet that truly cover how humiliating the matches were. And boy they were. I'll ask Tintin. --Dweller 10:14, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- It might be better to ask JHall1 or Johnlp (if he is around). Except a few standard reference books, I have very few books with me at the moment. Most of my books are at my parent's place; They live on the other side of India and I usually visit them only once in a month or so. - Thanks for the quick reply. You're a star, Tintin. --Dweller 10:26, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

With Tintin's help, the article is now filling up nicely with sourced editorialising from Wisden. Hope you like it (feel free to join in). Re our friend, I'm leaving well alone for a while. I've seen the edits flying (hilariously, including reverting of typo corrections) but don't want to be accused of wikistalking. --Dweller 13:27, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'll check out what you've done Wisden wise. As for our friend, well I've managed to find three of his four images as copyvios, the latest one being a devious little number from the BBC which had been replaced but still logged in Google's image search directory. I'm not stalking either, just making sure the article(s) he edits don't become copyvio/POV etc etc...! And as for reverting typos, well that just about sums it up, doesn't it? He's also onto anon IP account 3, so that's 7 accounts thusfar... The Rambling Man 13:44, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
NB Where did you get the WP:CRIC rating info from? lol --Dweller 13:58, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I have to admit I felt a tiny bit cheeky rating our own work as B but reading the criteria, it suggests B is an article that hasn't reached GA status yet but is considerably better than a stub. As for the significance, well since it originally talked about the summer of four captains, it's clearly of more significance than a standard test series, so Mid got my vote...! I was waiting for someone to tell me off for doing it! The Rambling Man 14:03, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

West Indian cricket team in England in 1988
Are the criteria for FA so much stronger than GA? My first thought was that we'd fail FA because of lack of images, but we've found two so far... although neither really illustrates the series lol. Have the GA judges made it so hard to pass that an article practically needs to be an FA, making GA status redundant? --Dweller 14:42, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- It certainly seems that perhaps it would be impossible to get this article to FA. Why don't we get it reviewed again for some additional pointers, and perhaps request advice on whether it could ever get to FA? The Rambling Man 14:43, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I've only done the first few tests for tone/OR so far. It's laborious work. --Dweller 14:45, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I can imagine. It's difficult for me to do this at work... Keep it going though, it's certainly improving the article with every edit... I'm still making gnomish nudges to it here and there! The Rambling Man 14:47, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Another stat box?
What do you think of the idea of creating a box with some simplified stats about the 4 captains, listing them, their (then) county (I think Emburey was the only one to play for 2, but that wasn't for another decade+!), which tests they were captain for, their ages in 1988, and how many tests they captained England in during their careers? Also, please help scour the article for remaining OR. --Dweller 16:02, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Box sounds primo. I've got to go to Ipsh!t now to see my grandad but I'll do it asap... The Rambling Man 16:09, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- 'Tis done, not brilliant but captures what you've suggested. Seems like all the CC flags have been removed, perhaps not fair use or something, so can't even 'graphic' the table up a bit. However, it does nicely summarise our 'four captains' so that's cool. The wiki markup to make the table is pretty straight-forward so if you're interested in getting a handle on it, have a look. I'm pretty average at all that sort of thing, but it may be useful for you in the future. Anyway, I'm off to bed, let me know if there's anything else we can do before referring the article back to a GA review. (Don't tell me you watched any of the England game - I caught the second half - why did I bother?). The Rambling Man 22:36, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Table
Right on, dude. Want to nom this for GA? --Dweller 23:02, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

- Soup herb. --Dweller 14:50, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- Aha. I see you've survived your trip to Ipsh!t. Lucky. About 160,000 turkeys didn't. Anyway, I've been a-tweaking. I see there's a backlog at GA. --Dweller 15:21, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I saw your tweaks, in line with the cricket projects desire to correctly link to clubs, all good! Pah, typical there's a backlog, still, patience and all that... ! The Rambling Man 15:23, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- Who wants to volunteer to check the consistency of "1st" vs "First" Test and how to write ODI and MOTM in full? --Dweller 15:28, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- So, Mr Dweller, we will have to wait until another day to see your team come back from two goals down to roundly beat us 3-2... again. The game is off tomorrow. Bubba hotep 15:39, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- lol my team is bobbins right now. Without Earnshaw, I doubt we'll score 3 again this season. Btw Bubba, if you want to help out with our GA candidate, you're more than welcome! --Dweller 15:41, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- Don't talk to me about strikers! And, yes, I'd be more than happy to help out. :) Bubba hotep 15:46, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- I had a look. Sorry, I could only contribute in a very minor way. Cricket isn't my strongpoint, but it looks a very well-written and thorough article. My attempts at copy-editing didn't yield many errors at all! Good luck, lads. Bubba hötep 16:11, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

<edit conflict> (bringing it back <- here) Thanks. Your efforts are definitely appreciated. Can you see any terminology/jargon that needs explaining, or evidence of what looks like unsubstantiated OR? --Dweller 16:16, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well, now you come to mention it: I am quite well-up on cricket terms, although I don't follow it, but I can see where some who may be unfamiliar might trip up. You have at least blue-linked some terms, which is good, but terms like "the tourists" may confuse. That's just one, maybe the only one! Will have a look again. Besides that, I think the use of the word "debacle" is not very neutral, although I can't think of a better word for it! Bubba hötep 16:24, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Atlantica Party page delete
Thank you.
Yes I understand. A page for The Atlantica Party is relevant however we can make it more encyclopedic. Is it possible to get the old page contents?
We will also create a better username.
You may delete 'Atlanticapoliticalparty' and 'Atlantic party'
Sorry to waste your time and thanks again. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Atlanticapoliticalparty (talk • contribs) 14:44, 8 February 2007 (UTC).
- I'm not an administrator so I can't undelete the material in question, you could post a request to User:RyanGerbil10 for him to get you the content back. You didn't waste my time at all, glad I could help. The Rambling Man 14:55, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
Welcome message
Thank you for your welcome message! I'm going to read the pages you linked me to. I think the rules are the same as on it.wiki but there might be some differences, so reading these pages can be useful. Thank you again. --Knacker ITA (write me) 17:05, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

AIV report
I see you removed your report as "erroneous" [1]. I went and blocked it anyway without noticing your removal of the report. Generally I wouldn't have blocked an IP user from a shared IP without letting them edit past this final warning. However, this user appears to be the same one returning every day at around 16:15 UTC. So I assume it's the same kid sitting in the same computer lab in the same class period every day and, therefore, should be receiving these messages. Just thought I'd let you know, Metros232 16:26, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, okay, thanks for letting me know! When I re-checked and noticed the vandal had been given a test4 for the past three consecutive days, I didn't feel so bad! Cheers! The Rambling Man 16:28, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
