I always welcome polite, constructive criticism and comments. New posts to the bottom, please.
If you're a vandal, do yourself some justice and put some thought into your insults. Replacing the page with "you are gay" isn't exactly ingenious, and I don't consider it an insult anyway: I'd much rather be gay than an illiterate chav. If I've deleted your article, or image, get over it. (Obviously you're welcome to question my decisions, but, seriously, there are some stalkers who really need help.)

[edit] Image:UOS Logo.png
I'm confused. Is there anything wrong with Image:University of sunderland logo.gif that it should have been replaced by User:Harveyhanson with Image:UOS Logo.png? If he or she is just experimenting, I would consider reverting to the previous image, which is not significantly larger in such a way as to merit a new upload under the Fair Use policy, is transparent and stored under a more descriptive filename.
One of these images needs to have a fair use rationale added and the other needs to be deleted. I have, experimentally, added a rationale to Image:University of sunderland logo.gif, but it applies equally to the other. What do you think? — mholland (talk) 18:13, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
- You're probably right, esp. the transparency and filename. Thanks for adding the fair use rationale. I've deleted the other image. The JPStalk to me 20:09, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Hello,
I have had a photo of Lucy Porter up loaded marked for deletion. It states permission granted but no evidence, how can i provide this evidence? I took the photo myself.
[edit] Your AWB edits, including those to Blackadder: Back & Forth
As you can see here, your AWB template replacement also mistakenly capitalised/shortened many words in the rest of the article. Please be more careful in future. —Vanderdecken∴ ∫ξφ 11:41, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, sorry about that. Considering the amount of time I spent last night a couple of minor mistakes were acceptable. At least we don't have that silly fork anymore. The JPStalk to me 18:15, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello,
Sorry, didnt get a reply previously but I guess you are busy, but you marked a photo for deletion as I didnt get proof that permission was given. This is definitely the case though because its a photo I have taken myself. how do i proove this? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Asheashe (talk • contribs) 14:35, 7 May 2007 (UTC).
- Hello. Images would have to be released under a specific license for us to use them. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. The copyright holder needs to email the Wikipedia Foundation releasing the rights. Cheers, The JPStalk to me 07:22, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Images from UKGameshows.com
Re: the image on the Going for Gold article, are you claiming that it is perfectly acceptable for Wikipedia to take all the images to which we've spent many years tracking down, editing and resizing...? Davidbod 00:11, 8 May 2007 (UTC) (UKGS editor)
- I think it would be courteous for the uploader to acknowledge the source. However, we include thousands of fair use images without requesting permission from the copyright owner (who have gone to considerable expense to produce the text). I know it seems unfair, but why should we have to ask the permission of UKGameshows.com to use images which aren't actually theirs?
- I know it seems unfair. I once ran a TV Themes website. Other sites sprang up, using identical files as mine and everyone else. Their sites looked better than my poorly designed site. Disheartening, considering the hours I'd spent encoding the content. However, that's the internet. When I was pissed off all hose years ago, a wise friend told my if I was that bothered, don't put it on in the web in first place. The JPStalk to me 07:15, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My talk page
Wow, I take a week off from Wiki, come back and my talk page is being attacked. How dare I tag an article as A7? Anyway, thank you for the speedy protection, but if it's not too much trouble, could you move the top comment down to the bottom? I was meaning to do that for quite some time, and each time I was about to something urgent cropped up. --Action Jackson IV 01:51, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Statement.jpg
Hello, The JPS. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Statement.jpg) was found at the following location: User talk:The JPS/archive4. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 09:21, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Speedy of Vern McKinley
Could you describe the process for your deletion of Vern McKinley? A newbie acquaintance of mine just pinged me asking why the article was deleted, and I see that you speedied as nn. From a cursory search I found significant sources that clearly establish notability: [1], [2], [www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1504347/posts], [3], and [4], to name a few. He also indicated that he tried to contest the speedy deletion, but I can't find a record of that so I am assuming he did so on the article talk page. In any event, I told him that he should just recreate the article and make sure to cite a bunch of independent sources (like those listed above) to make notability clear from the outset this time. DickClarkMises 15:22, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- The reason it was nominated, and subsequently deleted, is that usually only politicians in (or have been in) office are considered notable. The JPStalk to me 15:26, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- What like Ross Perot? :) In all seriousness, McKinley is the subject of multiple independent, reliable sources. He has written articles published in notable media and has testified before Congress as an expert on housing, central banking, and government-sponsored enterprises in general. It seems to me that the deletion was taken lightly and that a new contributor's work may have been summarily deleted out of process (at least if it is true that the speedy was indeed contested). DickClarkMises 15:35, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- I don't care enough to contest it, so whatever. The JPStalk to me 15:36, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well, not to put too fine a point on it, but this aloofness in deleting the work of others, particularly newcomers, is unbecoming an admin and in my opinion is not compatible with WP:BITE. ...but I can't force you to care about that, I suppose. Cheers, DickClarkMises 15:41, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Spoiler tags
I hate spoiler tags, especially the ridiculous ones like those I've removed.
[edit] Plot summary
Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
How is that not the most ridiculous thing you've ever seen? anthony 13:28, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think it's ridiculous at all, and citing "I hate them" is not a particularly good reason, but my feelings aren't strong enough to debate it. I think it's a shame, however, that some editors are spending a lot of time doing something that a bot could have been employed to do. Also, I'm not sure consensus was fully reached (judging by the AI discussion), and it was especially unwise to remove them en masse without edit summaries pointing towards the relevant debate. The JPStalk to me 13:44, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- "I hate them" is shorthand for "I think they make the encyclopedia worse", which is a very good reason to fix something.
-
- I don't think a bot could do what I was doing, because I was not removing them en masse from everywhere. In fact, I intentionally skipped removing them from some places, because I thought the removal would be too controversial.
-
- There may very well not have been a consensus reached on the matter. I'm not aware of a consensus for or against the use of the tags in any particular instance, so I feel it's up to each of us to decide what we think makes for a better encyclopedia.
-
- If you care to disagree with me about any particular edit of mine I will be happy to discuss the matter with you. But as you have already said your feelings aren't strong enough to debate the matter, I'll continue doing what I feel is best until someone does object and care to discuss the matter.

[edit] ArticleHistory
Just a note: GimmeBot fixed the errors in {{ArticleHistory}} at Talk:Psycho (1960 film) and Talk:Press Gang, in case you want to have a look. If you're not sure how to set up ArticleHistory, you can just leave the templates and request at the articlehistory talk page that the bot convert them to ArticleHistory. - Thanks -- I checked the differences and will use the fixed versions as templates. The JPStalk to me 09:39, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
- If you plan on doing a lot of ArticleHistory templates, it will be useful to download from Dr pda (talk · contribs) his articlehistory script. It's pretty hard to do it correctly without that tool. Regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 20:15, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Golden Girls episode articles
Please, I would put the memorable quotes in the Wikiquotes, but it is littered with quotes that aren't even episode specific, just subjects and charcters. Secondly, at the IMDb, it takes almost a week to see what you've contributed, but here, the changes are immediate. Thirdly, I'm not the only user creating Golden Girls episode articles. The other users use different breaks and spacing in the articles thay've created. I'm not sure how the category Golden Girls episodes got in your message. When categorizing, I only use Category:The Golden Girls. Finally, try sending your message to the other users who've made or modified Golden Girls episode articles to help you more. Sincerely, cjqtwm
- Thanks for your reply. I've left the message on one other user's talk page, and also the talk page for the list of episodes. If the episode category exists (which it does), then it should be used. This does make sense, right? In the very small number of cases when dialogue is really important, then you can integrate them into the plot section. We do not have separate sections for them. Thanks for your contributions, I hope you will rectify the errors. The JPStalk to me 23:50, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] A Little Help
Hi, it's me again. Nothing too big, but on many episode articles of other shows, I see a link that links the episode to its corresponding section at WikiQuotes. Can you tell me how to do that for the Golden Girls episode articles? I've aready moved all of my quotes to the WikiQuote GG page. Sincerely, Cjqtwm.
- Do you mean those boxes? You can copy this code: {{wikiquote|The Golden Girls}} If the name of the page on Wikiquotes is identical to one on Wikipedia, you can just have {{wikiquote}}. So if you put 'wikiquote' only on "The Actor" article, it would point to "the Actor" on Wikiquote. The JPStalk to me 22:03, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] TV
Hello, I noticed that you are a keen writer on television. I worked for ATV/Central (79 - 94) and Merdian (94 -99) and just wondered if you ever worked in the industry. I have loads of knowledge about the industry but of course a lot of it is first hand and cannot be mentioned here. Anyway just thought i'd say hello to a fellow TV enthusiast! Wowweb 13:09, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hello! No, I've never worked in the industry: I'm a mere academic. It's sometimes frustrating when you want to make a point to add depth to an article, or add a fact, but can't. That's there, or course, to protect the encyclopedia, since anyone can edit it and claim to have first hand experience/have been told by someone "in the know", etc. What was your role within ATV/Meridian? [edit] I'm back
Thanks for the welcome back. I left because of this article's FAC. I was pretty much the only one who opposed it. I argued with the nominator quite a bit, offering plenty of actionable objections but in the end, the article was promoted anyway. I felt as if Raul654 had just ignored my opinion, and I got a little ticked off. Plus school was picking up, and winter sports had started. Again, thanks for the welcome back, and I hope I can start working on an article again soon.--Dark Kubrick 17:11, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Jaws
I'd like to add cast and characters to Jaws movies. Any suggestion? Should I put the "red link" first, then create the article? Or create the article first, and then merge it to the existing article? Thank you. HoneyBee 19:10, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- I would spend time working on individual articles, rather than just creating all of the stubs. Perhaps work on them offline, or in userspace: e.g. User:HoneyBee/Martin Brody. I've seen some truly abysmal character articles. There's no point in adding the red links. Anyway, as Jaws is a featured article, we're not supposed to have red inks on that page. The JPStalk to me 19:16, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I understand now. Thanks for the info. Btw, if for example I work on them (characters article) in userspace, how do I put them in the article? HoneyBee 19:27, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

-
- No problem. I removed the cast table from Jaws and corrected most of that editor's other edits. The Empire Strikes Back needs work, but it's much closer to what we should be doing. The best examples are Halloween (1978 film) and Halloween II. The JPStalk to me 18:29, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
- Got it. What about casting section from Jaws: The Revenge, I read the article and I think it's a good example, right? 20:34, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

I think you should put some examples in the talk page because many ppl seems want a cast list at least because it's easier to read. If you can just explain it, like you explained Jaws 2 to me, I think ppl would follow the format. I think many ppl have difficulties to follow the format because it's too long to read, and they usually scan the article quickly. I personally don't have a problem, and when you explained to me how the article should be done, I immediately got it and right now is looking for some sources. Please let me know if I'm making mistake, or just fix it. Right now I'm following your advice of making an offline characters page, and will put it into the article when it's done. [edit] Prisoner overseas - deletion
Thanks for your comments regarding this. Hopefully it will not be deleted. The details there are fairly relevant as far as I am concerned. The series is currently being released on DVD with roughly 30% available so far. The rest should be available by the end of 2008. I am a fan of the show and although there are various websites about the show, none are very accurate on it's international success, airdates and ratings info. I know that various other fans of the show do like to know when particular episodes first went to air in Australia and to discover the time when they first saw them (years later) in the UK. It may be better for all such info to be on a website of its own, but I feel it is worthy info, particularly with the epsiodes being re-viewed for the first time for many (via the DVDs) some 25 years (Australia) after and 15 years after (UK)_ their original airings. Also I very much doubt that there is any other programme, particularly with a solid fanbase, that had such regional differences during it's initial airings in a country. Most shows such as 'The OC' etc are shown across the whole country (US/UK/Aust/where-ever) simultaneously and therefore are easier to build up a following. 84.9.61.204 21:33, 13 June 2007

[edit] Cast section
Hello. I'm not sure from where you got your idea for formatting, but we don't have cast lists in tables like that. The general thinking is that tables should be avoided for simple lists. Actually, there shouldn't be a list at all: featured articles have Casting sections written in prose: see Halloween (1978 film) and Halloween II for examples of a mature cast section. Cheers. The JPStalk to me 18:19, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
-
- Dear JPS, that is absolutely heartbreaking to read. If you look at my User page and conritbutions, I have spent a LOT of time putting casts into attractive and easy-to-read tables. I am a professional Art Director and Magazine Publisher, and have some knowledge of preparing an attractive presentation. My format is as follows (example only)
-
-
Actor Role Will Ferrell Chazz Michael Michaels Craig T. Nelson Coach
-
-
- No one has complained before, and I hope you will give it some consideration as it is meant for a quick scan more than anything. Where I think it might not work is on the page Empire Falls. However I was thinking of undoing that. Where i think it works well, as and example, is here and here.
-
-
- I know it's disappointing when you've put time and effort into something, only to have it removed. I've been there. Consistency is important, though. The style guidelines for film articles are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Style guidelines. As I say, tables are to be avoided for simple lists, and colour is to be avoided for accessibility reasons. - Hey JPS, first of all, I have to (and want to) respect what you say because, well, you're an admin, and have surely worked hard to get there. I hope you will only remove the colours at this point from my tables, or you will have one very broken hearted Canadian over here. Can I at least make the colour headings a suggestion in the Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Style guidelines page? I think it will be effective and, as I said before, it's very subtle, and uses very simple HTML colours (and yes, in Canada we say 'colour' not 'color' like the country below). Cheers best wishes.--RobNS 19:05, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

JPS, can I PLEASE put back the table in Jaws? I promise to keep the colours out (at this point), and make the list sortable. Thank you in advance, best.--RobNS 19:08, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Style guidelines does not accommodate this. Jaws is a featured article, nominated and judged as an example of Wikipedia's best work. Therefore, the style guidelines must be adhered to. The JPStalk to me 19:19, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

- OK JPS, I suppose you are correct. I just think my efforts on Jaws made the cast easier to read, and that is all I was aiming for.
