As Tom Sawyer, Cooper seduces Mary Ford and steals her money. Mary's husband kills her and himself in anger. Their son James–who later becomes a con man himself and takes the name Sawyer as an homage to the man who ruined his life–makes it his objective to find the original Sawyer, read him a letter that he wrote for him as a child and kill him. Sometime after the crash of 815, the Others stage a car accident, kidnap Cooper and imprison him to the island, although Cooper believes that he has gone to Hell. Ben reveals him to Locke on day 81 and Locke takes him to the Black Rock and introduces him to Sawyer, who finally succeeds in fulfilling his goal on day 91. |
