- About the Newsletter
E komo mai! The WikiProject Hawaiʻi newsletter is a monthly newsletter regarding updates of WikiProject Hawaiʻi. The idea for this newsletter was conceived by The Obento Musubi in March of 2008, with the help of Viriditas, Jonny-mt, and SeanMD80. If you are interested in helping with the WikiProject Hawaii Newsletter, please sign your name at WP:WikiProject Hawaii/Outreach/Newsletter or leave a message at the talk page of WikiProject Hawaii or that of The Obento Musubi. Mahalo!
- Monthly Focus
This month, our WikiProject will focus on articles within the scope of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands (pictured). If you know a thing or two about the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, then please edit them and make them better articles! If you wish to consult someone regarding the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, please talk to SeanMD80, as he is very knowledgeable regarding the subject.
- Message from SeanMD80
Articles within the scope of this improvement drive include all of the articles about the islands themselves (Category:Northwestern Hawaiian Islands), the species of animals and plants that make the NWHI their home (Category:Species Endemic to the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands), and the National Monument. Every single article mentioned can be expanded dramatically, but we want to bring as many "stub-class" articles as possible to "start-class" or above. Additionally, we want to bring as many of the islands themselves up to "B-class."
All of the articles within our scope have either been recently re-assessed or will be re-assessed very soon as to their quality, and on each article, I have left comments on what still needs to be added to the article. To access these comments, go to the article's talk page, go to the Hawaiian Wikiproject Box, and click on "comments." Happy Editing!

- Did you know?
In order to become more prominent in the Wikipedia community, it was suggested by Viriditas that WikiProject Hawaiʻi to have a system in which an editor can create (or greatly expand at least five-fold) an article, and another editor submit the article to DYK. Thus, on the main page, readers who view DYK will see an article related to WikiProject Hawaiʻi (in particular, articles regarding the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands), and, according to Viriditas, it would, in effect, "result... in more traffic and readers who can contribute."
- Task Forces
If you are not entirely familiar with the concept of a task force, it is described by the WikiProject Council as being "a non-independent subgroup of a larger WikiProject that covers some defined part of the WikiProject's scope." In other words, a task force may be needed if it is not big enough to be a WikiProject (i.e. WikiProject Hawaiʻi), but is big enough to have a group of workers better it for the community (i.e. Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Task Force). It was recommended to me by Viriditas that WikiProject Hawaiʻi have its own task force dedicated to cleaning up articles related to the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. If you are interested in creating the task force for the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, please leave a message on the talk page for WikiProject Hawaiʻi.
- Collaboration
Members of WikiProject Hawaiʻi have lately been collaborating with other WikiProjects, namely collaborations between WikiProject Hawaiʻi and WikiProject Food and Drink. This month, we would like to give a shout out to BorgQueen, an administrator of Wikipedia, who has collaborated with WikiProject Food and Drink to better Cuisine of Hawaii. We at the newsletter would also like to give a shout out to those who have been collaborating about Laie Hawaii Temple, which is currently a B-class article. Should this article be expanded a little more and reviewed for good article status, it should pass. Good luck, guys!
