The film focuses on a private detective. Walter Quinton. Who after making most of his living tracking down missing pets is given a real case in the form of the murder of Mr Namara (who we see killed at the begining of the movie). Mrs Namara, his widow, hires Quinton to solve the murder after the police have no leads after 6 weeks.
Quinton sets about solving the case, interviewing Mrs Namara and obtaining photos of the crime scene. However after 3 months on the case Quinton despondantly tells an agitated Mra Namara that he is no where near solving it. He is immediatly fired and Quinton decides to drown his sorrows at the Bar, where he meets Rosemary, a woman who shows interest. Afterwards Quinton burns the photos of the Namara case and pulls Rosemarys phone number from his jacket and invites Rosemary for dinner.
After dinner they are walking down a dark secluded street when Rosemary pulls Quinton into an alleyway, under the pretence of romance, but she pulls out a gun and knocks Quinton to the floor with a butt to the head. Leter Quinton is tied to the chair in his office, Rosemary is searching his office and demands access to the files for the Namara case but Quinton repeatly states that he has burnt them.
Rosemary, not beliving him continues to search. While she is occupied he unties himself and goes for a gun in the draw of his desk, but in his excited and drunk state he drops the weapon which crashes to the floor. Rosemary turns around, her gun aimed squarely at him. She notices the remains of the files burnt in his bin and then dispatches Quinton with a single shot to the head.
Later Detective brown (a friend of Quinton) is hired by Mrs Namara to continue the search for her husbands killer. After thier meeting Brown is approached by an unseen female and given the card with Rosemarys number. Template:Endspoiler

[edit] Production
Shooting began on February 6, 2007, and was completed on February 8, 2007. Quinton was the first Neo-noir made in Folkestone ever. The film was nominated for four Boshcars, all for technical aspects (Best Sound, Best Make Up, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Editing) but failed to win any of them after Steve Timmins said in Time Magazine "Hollywood is full of pricks in suits, and those assholes at the MacAmammy Awards are no better. What a bunch of cunts". Most of the key Quinton effects were provided by Tim Greenfield (on the computer graphics side) and by John Leeves (on the practical effects side). The external aspects of the spectacular scenes at Quintons Office, including the massive pan up at the beggining of the movie, were animated digitaly, using computers.
- According to Leeves on the Extreme Mega WAAAAA Edition commentary, he received a letter from "Clark Gable" regarding the office sequence in which Quinton is tied up. He said it was the "most unrealistic" depiction of a guy strapped in a chair ever put on film.
- The weapon used by John White is a custom-made Coltonic (Detonics slide on a Colt 1911 frame). No i'm lying again sorry. Is was a BB gun.
- In order for the black and white effect to be achieved every person, object and room in the movie had to be painted either black or white, which was a time consuming an costly affair. Afterwards it was pointed out that you can just put the camera itself into a black and white mode. "Oh butter my arse" said everyone.
[edit] Reception
The movie was made for approximately £400, and at the time was the most expensive movie ever made at South Kent College. It was a box-office gash, earning £20.48 in the United States alone, and was the highest grossing film of 2007, beating out Dudes with Attitude and Dudes with Attitude 2: The Cumming of the Next Gay. The film is currently ranked 8,455,442 on IMDb's list of the Top 8,455,443 films of all-time [2].
Upon its release, the theatrical cut ran 9 minutes (.66 hours). On April 24, 2007, the Quinton: Judgment Day: Special Edition cut of the film was released to Betamax, containing 17 days of never-before-seen footage including scenes with Kevin Costner reprising his role as The Mariner from Waterworld (in a dream sequence). The subsequent "Ultimate Edition", "Extreme Edition" and "Megaton LOL ROFLcopter" DVD releases also contain alternate extended versions of the film. Though its getting annoying now.
The Montreal Film Journal calls it "shit". [1] Screenwriting guru The Guru lauds the plot of Quinton, saying, for example, "every scene sets up the next, like links in a chain of dramatic action. Wait what the hell am I saying? It sucked. Well thats not true, its better then Spider-man 3."[2] The film was placed #1 on Total Film magazine's The Top 100 Films of All Time Ever. Shows what those idiots know.
On IMDB the film enjoys an average user rating of 1.3 (out of 2) and is currently #8,455,442 on the site's Top 8,455,443 Films list.
"Quinton" is also Paul Ross' most favourite film of this hour.
[edit] Music-Video
John White recorded a single and Music Video to accompany the release of the film entitled "Quinton Sings the Blues" which entered the UK chart at #79 (beating Avril Lavine's Latest crap). The single fell off the charts shortly afterwards.
John decided to release a follow up Album called "Sing When You're Sluthing", although it never made it into the album charts. John believes to this day that the only reason the album failed was because Mark Player insisted on having his version of "Fly Me to the Moon" as the first track, which "Made people feel sick and want to beat up midgets".
[edit] DVD Release
"Quinton" was released on DVD on April 23, 2007. It contained Audio Commentary by Director John Leves Esq, Producer Steve Timmins and Editor Tim Greenfield. Mark Player was left out of the commentary because they didn't want people to fall asleep.
The DVD also contained Tralers, Production Photos and a coupon for a free Trilby Hat from Debenhams (who coincidendaly had a sharp upturn in sales of the Trilby shortly after the film was released). Deleated scenes were included, one of which includes Quinton wrestling a Bear, but it was removed when it was discovered that Bears dont show up well in Black and White.
A hidden Easter Egg on the DVD shows John White rapping to the tune of Fresh Prince of Bel Air while wearing his Trilby slightly off centre.
Exerpt from the Lyrics:
Now this is a story, all about how, My job got shit and I was down, Now i'd like to catch some bad guys, so don't be shy, I'll tell you how I became a fucking Bad Ass PI. WERD!
[edit] Trivia
- The words spoken by Mr Namara at the begining of the film is real English, as opposed to that crappy fake english that Hugh Grant speaks.
- The Writer/Director John Leeves was very much against having women in the film because he believes they are inferior, but decided to do it as long as the women in the film complained alot and shot people.
- The actor John White had to be taught how to use a telephone for the office scene.
- Chuck Norris apparently killed Tim Greenfield (after having sex with him) during the film and he had to be replaced with a Cybernetic organism (robot)
- The Leas Cliff Hall has launched a 50 million pound lawsuit over the fact that they were not thanked in the films end credits.
- The "Aluminum" Falcon credited at the end of the film was the nickname for Mark Player's car, because it looks like its made out of Tin foil.
[edit] Quinton in pop culture
- When people go for a number 2, its now known as "doing a Quinton"
- "I Burnt Them" has become a popular catchphase among 2 to 3 year olds.
- In the video game Quinton: Shaolin Monks, Mecha Quinton sinks to the bottom of the Netherrealm's molten magma and has his head blown off, parodying the destruction of Quinton.
- In the anime series Quinton Super Mission X, the male lead character, Youta Stolemadinner, waits in a movie theater lobby; a television setup inside shows a preview of Quinton, with the characteristic Office background and trenchcoat of Quinton.
- Robert Patrick eats small children, rahhhhh.
- The promotional poster of Quinton was never made.
- In the video games Hitman: Codename 47 and Hitman: Contracts, there is a level set in a office where the player can go into Quintons office and drink Jack Daniels until he vomits.
- In the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, a level in the game (and the following cutscene) show CJ and one of his Grove Street homies riding a motorcycle in between various buildings and into a resturant much like the one in this film. Not long afterwards (in a cutscene), a semi truck crashes down from an overpass into the "resturant" in pursuit of the two on the bike. CJ is then instructed to fire at the truck, which ends up with it "burning". A humourous parody of Quinton saying "I burnt them"
- In the video game Sonic Adventure 2, at the end of the first level, City Escape, Sonic must obtain a semi on the streets. The way this ends is similar to how it ends in the movie, as Sonics head is blown off.
- Another reference is seen in the game Sonic Heroes. Metal Sonic, the game's antagonist, can assume the form of a puddle of shite, similar to Quinton after hes had a few.
- In the video game Burnout: Revenge, a signature XXX throwdown in Angel Valley's drainage pit is called Quintoned, a reference to nothing really.
[edit] Future
20th Century Fox has reportidly bought the rights to the movie and plans to film a remake in 2032 (because Hollywood will have done EVERYTHING there is to do and can only make new films out of old ones).
John White has also been signed up to play Quinton in The Simpsons Episode "Who shot Matt Groening" Where he will investigate and probably fail, at solving the murder of the aforementioned cartoonist.
A series of action figures was produced by Kenner. These include a figure of Quinton, in standard slumped in chair position with a Cigar in one hand a Jack Daniels in the other (sold seperatly). The other figure is of Mr Namara being dead. Quintons car, the "P.I Mobile" (unseen and unscripted in the film but showhorned in to cash in on the franchise), is also available to buy.
Timmins is in talks with ITV about a possible TV Spinoff entitled "Quinton: The Early Years" which will show the detectives life before he became a drunk. Timmins is quoted as saying "It would basicaly follow the same story as the Spider-man trilogy. The only reason behind that is because we can't be arsed to think of anything original"
