Theo was a piano player influenced by American shuffle, boogie, & R&B. He was a part of the group Clue J & The Blues Blasters who recorded for Studio One in the late 50's. Along with Ernie Ranglin, he is credited with inventing the Jamaican strand of shuffle or boogie music which later became ska, which again later became reggae. Along with Ernest Ranglin, Theo Beckford invented reggae.
