Thenford

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thenford is a small village in the English county of Northamptonshire, six miles east of the town of Banbury. It includes the church of St. Mary's, and also Thenford House, the seat of The Rt. Hon. the Lord Heseltine CH, former deputy Prime Minister and owner of the Haymarket Group publishing house. In the grounds of the House is a large arboretum which has become, almost by accident, one of the most important private collections in the UK. To the south east of the House there are the ruins of a Roman villa, now a scheduled Ancient Monument.

[edit] Etymology

The name Thenford is derived from the 'Ford of the Thanes'.
