[edit] Release and reception
The song was written specifically for the St. Trinian's film by Charlie Mole, who composed the music, with lyrics from Ali Thompson. The theme was then recorded by Girls Aloud. It was revealed in April 2007 that Girls Aloud would make a cameo appearance as the "naughty" St. Trinian's School Band, when they were photographed in school uniforms at the movie's set.[1] Girls Aloud perform "Theme to St Trinian's" at the end of the movie. A music video for the song was released to music video stations to promote the film and the soundtrack. The video is comprised of Girls Aloud performing the song in the movie, as well as various clips of scenes from throughout the film.
Digital Spy called the song "an electro-glam-sci-fi-rock romp" and gave the song a positive response.[2] On the other hand, InTheNews.co.uk called it a "below-average song".[3] Girls Aloud also contributed an exclusive song entitled "On My Way To Satisfaction" to the soundtrack, which Digital Spy called "a fuzz-rockin' cousin to the Aloud's 2005 single 'Wake Me Up'".[2]
[edit] Charts
"Theme to St. Trinian's" debuted at number ninety-six on the UK Singles Chart on 5 January 2008, due to high download sales.[4] It rose to number fifty-one a week later.[4] The song was then removed from the iTunes Store, but readded in April 2008.
