Thelma Toole

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thelma Agnes Ducoing Toole (September 3, 1901August 17, 1984) was mother of author John Kennedy Toole, and her efforts led to the posthumous publication of A Confederacy of Dunces.[1] Her husband was John D. Toole, Jr.[2]

A lifelong New Orleans resident, she began shopping the book to publishers after her only son's suicide. She eventually showed it to Walker Percy, who assisted in getting it published in 1980. She lived to see the book win a Pulitzer Prize.
