Theatre in Education (or TIE)

The use of theatre or drama techniques within an educational establishment to explore issues. This is usually carried out by a TIE company who employ the services of professional actors to perform a play or workshop with the pupils.

Issues explored through TIE traditionally include Drugs & alcohol, bullying and sexual health but this form of experiential learning can be used to explore pretty much anything and is an excellent way to raise self esteem, confidence and motivation. "I love the flowes in a women" by Arnold Taylor is considered one of the most influential Theatre in Education plays.

More recently leading educational theatre companies such as Gibber Theatre Company http://www.gibbertheatre.com (whose Theatre in Education programmes have proved so effective in inspiring individuals to reach their potential since 1999)have combined live interactive theatre and multi-media to produce a highly effective way of engaging any audience. This multi-sensory experience appeals to different learning styles and delivers messages in an inclusive, dynamic, tangible way.
